Many (US Army), not all combat vets, wear this on their uniform;

The interesting thing is that Combat Engineers who often enter combat before the infantry and almost always leave combat after them aren't authorized to wear the CIB. The only real difference between a Combat Engineer and an Infantryman is that infantrymen are trained on heavy weapons, mortars and the like while Combat Engineers are merely familiarized on them and Combat Engineers are trained on construction, bridging and obstacle emplacement/clearing.

While in general you are correct, WWII was due to an existential threat to the US, and involved multiple attacks on US territory. Pearl Harbor, Wake Island, Guam. Germany was an existential threat.

other attacks on US territory:
911 was an attack on US territory.
Pancho Villa invaded US territory.
And of course, we cannot forget the horror of the Cola Wars.

We have been attacked not invaded

Pearl Harbor, Guam, Alaskan Aleutian’s were attacks on US territories that were not states

Vietnam Nam soldiers were told they were fighting for Freedom
Relatives of 60,000 dead received letters saying they died fighting to protect our freedom

Vietnam fell to the Communists 50 years ago and the freedom of Americans was never affected

No question that our military makes great sacrifices on behalf of our country. They deploy all around the world on behalf of US interests.

In spite of the decades old claims that these deployments “keep us safe” and “keep us free”
Our safety or freedom is not challenged by military conflicts half a globe away.

Our country has not been invaded in over 200 years
There is no country on earth capable of taking away our freedom or jeopardizing the safety of the American public

Justified or not, our military deployments are done to protect our economic, strategic and political interests
"protect our economic, strategic and political interests", Which is how we keep our nation safe and free .

The assumption being that combat Veterans should be haunted rather than honored by things that they have done? That's pretty insulting.
If they are "haunted" it's by memories of what they have seen and done, not by our nation and most of our citizens.

Not really
Fighting to protect economic profits does not keep us free or safe
I love these little bits of wisdom you post.

do you clean them after you pull them out of your ass?

Not exactly. One of consequences of the US defeat in the Vietnam war was the deal with China, and the further deindustrialisation of the USA. And this shift of the industry means, among other things, your fall in the LGBT-ideology and drug-addiction epidemy.

Spoken like one who doesn't understand economics, wealth creation, or free enterprise.
Also one likely to be a leftist and non-productive recipient of guv'mint handouts.

Read the Constitution
That defines the Freedoms that Americans enjoy.
Freedom of Speech, Religion, Press, own guns, right to vote

Fighting in Korea, Vietnam, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Iraq
Never jeopardized those freedoms
