"Mere rhetorical hyperbole"

This morning I woke up and i turned on the TV. At the time FOX was on Christmas stories. CNN and MSNBC had Trump stories. Just saying. Christmas day. Christmas morning. Propaganda. Pravda. 7 days a week. 24 hours a day. And FOX is not conservative. It has its shills, and it has its sills who activate for certain issues.
Are they still shilling about this faux "war on Christmas?"

The Dems / Socialists can’t let it go. Remarkably, you can't sell your house while hiding material defects or sell securities by making false representations. The Dems / Socialists, however, were entirely sold on the idea of stealing an election by hiding behind lies and falsehoods about ‘Russia collusion’ and making false representations in a FISA document to a court.

"And maybe she's providing a service in the long run, demonstrating how dangerous lies and malice can be."

What is heartening about the Kari Lake case, the Giuliani court case, the Dominion one against Fox, NewsMax, and OAN, and other assorted players is that it establishes that there is a price to be paid for intentional untruths, defaming, and slander.

The defendants have been throwing up their smokescreens that it is merely 'political rhetoric', its protected by the 1st, it is only the hyperbole of the campaign trail, yadda, yadda, yadda.

But......the bill is coming due. And the collector is at the door.
So those particular defendants know there is a cost to recklessness.

More importantly, a message is being sent to others who have a weak sense of duty towards conducting discourse responsibly, and in such a way that people are not threatened, harassed, and endangered.

Hopefully, the travails of Lake, and Rudy and Pillowboy and Fox.......sets a marker that will improve our "political communications". And, keep our election officials, election worker-bees, our civil servants, safe from the nutcases that are out there and who are dangerously motivated by mere "political rhetoric".

I am a MAGA Republican, and I say, "Bring it on!" She made factual assertions that defamed the Governor. If they are false (NYT v Sullivan be damned), then she should have to pay damages.

That's the way defamation law is supposed to work.

This stuff is difficult for me. I've always been a manic, psychotic, whacked out advocate for freedom of expression, and I've had far more than my share of squabbles with left wingers here about Politcal Correctness and Cancel Culture. So I find myself REALLY resenting the GQP for making me push the envelope on this.

The Founders weren't prepared for something like this, an entire alternate reality in which a large bloc of Americans just make it up as they go and cling to it like their lives depend on it. They didn't see a future of mass manipulation like this.

Cancel culture has always been a rightwing thing. Always has and always will.

Collusion was found in his campaign.
As I recall it, the Russians tried to collude with the Trump campaign but it was too disorganized and incompetent. They ended up helping the Trump campaign (e.g., releasing DNC emails) without any coordination.

Got a recent link?

The Russians definitely helped Trump get elected,

Wrong.

they hacked and released DNC emails for one,

No they didn't. Crowdstrike, which provided cybersecurity for the DNC, loudly proclaimed that they did and a year later quietly admitted that they were wrong.
and Don Jr. met with Russians to get dirt on Hillary, so there was plenty of smoke.
But didn't get any dirt. In fact the dirt was the bait in a bait-and-switch operation. Kind of like how Adam Schiff spoke on the phone with Russians in order to get dirt on Trump. He didn't get any dirt either, but he did get trolled by a couple Russian comedians.

So no link, just a denial. Got it.

Got a link to the Crowdstrike retraction? I found no such thing.

So Don Jr. tried to collude but failed to do so. Got it.

OK, got it; however, free expression stops when it employs lies and falsehoods to hurt people or businesses. Those entities have rights too. And freedom from mendacious actors who will publicly express falsehoods in and attempt and with the intent.....to hurt another.

Yeah, I'm good with those rules, with directly inciting violence, shouting FIRE in a crowded theater, that kind of thing.

I've just never been at a point where I had to challenge my beliefs like this. The people who are causing the most damage just dance on the edge, y'know?
