I feel sorry for her sometimes, but she did make her choices. She's even had sex with the scumbag. I don't think anyone forced her. Why try to shove her at everyone?
I do hope that it is true that she no longer allows him to put his hands on her.
I give her credit for holding up her end of this business deal of a marriage a whole lot better than Trump does. She shows up as required, dressed appropriately, and does what is required with style and grace. But she is a total subversive who has thumbed her nose at the traditional role of First Lady, she does it in discreet and subtle ways, through her wardrobe.
She wore a pink blouse with a bow, which the French designer had dubbed a "***** blouse" to the candidates debate right after the Access Hollywood tape, and a white #TimesUp pant suit to the State of the Union as the Stormy Daniels scandal swirled. The "I really don't care, do you?" Dolce and Gabbana jacket to the detention centres, which was an odd choice. Usually dressed in couture, this jacket retails for around $35 at H&M.
But aside from not living at the White House, Melania has rejected other First Lady traditions. First Ladies have always turned to American designers to dress them for important occasions. Melania turns to French or Italian couture. Jackie Kennedy was another couture customer, but turned to American designer, Oleg Cassini, for her wardrobe as First Lady, and her look became iconic. This was a huge boost to the entire American fashion industry. Of course the American fashion industry doesn't employ hundreds of thousands of garment workers any more. All those jobs went to Asia when manufacturing was offshored, so many it's not considered as important today.
Melania's Inauguration outfit was Ralph Lauren, but many of the gowns she wears to dinners and events are French. Her choices are always impeccable, but then her annual clothing budget for just one year would put all of my grandchildren through college, and I have a lot of grandchildren.
