Actually his father had convictions for domestic abuse and possessing marijuana and was bankrupt. This kid was being homeschooled because in 2015 he was expelled for attacking another student with a hatchet........or so was reported on the 'get the full story here' link, within your posted link.

The kid had long standing problems including a father that was a drug addict. Drug use is not harmless for those that are forced to live with someone else's problem.
