Marco Rubio’s “Pro-Family” Proposals Are a Fraud

In the wake of Roe v. Wade’s reversal, Marco Rubio has announced a set of welfare proposals that are supposed to help mothers and families. The Right is yet again proposing a “pro-worker conservatism” with no pro-worker substance.

These policy proposals have two political aims. One is to allow Rubio and other Republicans to present the rollback of reproductive freedoms as part of a “pro-family” agenda, born out of a sincere concern for mothers and children. Rubio’s plans are in line with the advice of conservative New York Times columnist Ross Douthat, who suggests that the GOP needs to become “more serious about family policy and public health” to sustain its antiabortion victories.

Though I'm pro abortion, especially Biden supporter females terminating their bastard, I love how this decision is making the left go bezerk....lololol

Abortion culls people like the 7/4 shooter

Let's see. Paid parental leave. That seems something the Democrats have long been calling for. Now granted, I will note the shortcomings in this plan. It isn't going to cover those who need it the most. The young girl at Wal-Mart isn't going to likely get squat.

He gets his dig in with the SALT deductions for the expanded tax credit BUT I fully support that. I have no issue with this part.

Expand enforcement. If a father is working there is already enforcement. Seems kinda hollow to me.

I'm good with expanding WIC. Good idea.

I don't really see a issue with the rest BUT I note one big glaring issue missing. Child care. Many young women will abort because they can not afford child care. It is also very hard to find a job that will work around child care.

So your solution is to kill it before that can happen.

I'm pro-life but I agree with the statement. The solution is to enact policies that will help the woman choose to not abort. If Rubio is making at least a small step in that direction, great but it's not been something Republicans have supported in the past. I doubt he can get them to support it now.

Once the child falls out of the mother's womb, Republicans and conservatives could care less about it.
I see the utility in abortion.....But yeah, this right-leaner wonders why should I have to keep propping up other's lack of responsibility?

If you can't support them on your own dime then don't have them.....But noooo, here comes the .gov to make lack of responsibility pay. Fuck that noise.

That is funny

Especially when you read how Rubio intends to fund these programs

Not a cent from the wealthy or corporations.
It is all paid by pulling funding from existing programs from workers

Eliminating the SALT deduction would fall on the back of the wealthy.

Families can claim up to $10,000 deduction

Now that money will go to pay for child services

Here is extra money for child deduction, but you give up a $10,000 deduction to pay for it

Republicans HATE paid parental leave

Here is what Rubio offers

Enable paid parental leave. The legislation includes Rubio’s New Parents Act, a bill that would allow new and newly-adoptive parents to pull forward up to three months of their Social Security benefits to finance paid parental leave. Stay-at-home parents with a sufficient earnings history would also be able to take the funding option and receive resources.

Not employers paying for parental leave but workers pulling money out of their Social Security to pay for it.

hmmmmm...sounds like it would save social security from any future axe, which in turn would prevent the use of scare tactics claiming "they want to take away your social security"

It forces employees to raid their Social Security funds that must be paid back later

Thanks for nothing Marco

How about making employers pay like they do in other countries?

Mainly the wealthy can claim the deduction.

raid? lol...good word!...don't they end up "raiding" it anyway?

ahhhh the real problem

because we are not authoritarian socialists, employers in our country still have a say in who gets to spend their money.
Taking money from your retirement to pay for maternity leave

Robbing Peter to pay Paul

Thanks for nothing Marco
