Majorities once supported slavery and segregation. They once supported Jim Crowe. Majorities supported interning the Japanese. They supported turning away desperate Jewish refugees in the 1940's.
I'm not sure I have much faith in the judgemnent of "majorities".
That is why we are not a true democracy. And that is why we have an electoral voting system. The majority can be pigs but are bound by the constitution.
Thing is, there is a huge problem with many of the refugees and we know terrorists are coming in with them. This is a different situation than any you mentioned.
We are not obligated to take in any refugees or immigrants. It's our choice and they must come according to our rules.
Other countries have dealt with a lot of serious issues as a result of taking in so many refugees. Women and children have been at greater risk of being assaulted in areas with high populations of refugees. That is not opinion. Local governments actually had to warn women to avoid areas where Muslim males are living. Kids must be watched closely in public swimming pools. On New Year's eve last year, hundreds of women were sexually assaulted by Muslims.
Then there are the radicals who plot to murder the infidels. Even if the percent was really only 10%, you have to ask why we would knowingly allow thousands of terrorists entry to our country. We've seen the damage a handful of them can do and now we have thousands spread across the states. It's a bunch of terrorist attacks waiting to happen. The answer is not to bring in more.
People didn't just randomly decide to dislike, mistrust or even hate Muslims. It's because so many are just sick and tired of all the attacks and the nasty attitudes that many deal with every day.
It's not so much mistrusting an entire group of people but knowing that terrorists, radicals and barbarians are among them, it's understandable that so many just don't want to live with the increased threat of attacks.
There is nothing wrong with helping them by keeping them in their own region. You can help others without increasing the risk to people here. And that is what we should be doing. No need to spend money we don't have to bring them here, house, feed, clothe and provide medical care for them. Economically, it's best to send aid there. And it's safer.
