Low Income Living

I have lived on a pay cash or don't have it basis for most of my life.
What about the threat inflation poses to a pay cash lifestyle? At the moment inflation seems like a remote concern for the US consumer; however, if it ever gets started, it could turn every $10 bill under your mattress into a $5.
I have watched the 5 cent, 2/12 oz candy bar become the $1.25 6oz candy bar, in my lifetime.

Inflation of the waistline is the biggest problem America faces today.
It is certainly one of the many concerns.

I've seen the same inflation levels over my lifetime, but neither of us has lived through Weimar-like inflation.

My total monthly income from SSA and SSI amounts to less than $900, and my rent takes 30% of that. If the US ever sees a five year period of inflation like the one Germany experienced, I, and many others, will be living under bridges.

We're getting close.
We are, as recent events in Ferguson have proven. IMHO, Michael Brown's death was well deserved and probably spared countless future victims the pain and misery of coming into contact with a thug of his stature, but the local government of Ferguson has been "taxing" its poorest citizens by issuing traffic citations, for example, whose principal function is to bring in revenue to cash-strapped courts and police departments.

The exact same thing happens all across this nation. "Quota Tickets" are the norm and an important part of what cops are told to do during their shift. It has been well documented. And, it's not only traffic tickets that bring in the revenue. Cops are known for arresting citizens on bogus crap, throwing them in jail, and forcing them to come up with bail money and money to pay bogus fines. I read about it all the time. And, many articles are posted by others on my Facebook page daily.

Since the 1970s, capitalism has consigned much of the working population to grim and declining conditions of life and work, "something new in the history of industrial society." Taken in conjunction with the "crisis of democracy" that arose in the '60s and '70s, today's version of the shadow that business casts upon society places public police officers armed with military-style weapons in the streets of Ferguson to pacify the poor who resent being fined to make up for losses incurred during Wall Street's latest meltdown. I won't be surprised if some 21st Century version of debtors' prison or community service chain gang forms the core of many future "public private partnerships."

actually it eliminated 40% of the worlds poverty and saved another 60 million from slowly starving to death when China switched to it.

See why we have to be 100% positive that liberalism is based in pure ignorance. Is any other conclusion possible?

"What Capitalism Delivers
by Richard D. Wolff

"Most Presidents preside over one or more capitalist downturns (recessions, depressions, crises, etc.). Every President since at least FDR generated a 'program' to respond to the downturn -- as demanded by citizens and businesses.

"FDR and every later President promised that his program would 'not only extricate the US from the present economic troubles but will also make sure neither we nor our children need face such downturns in the future.'

"Obama is only the latest to do so.

"No President has been able to keep that promise.

"The current capitalist crisis, now halfway through its fifth year with no end in sight, proves that preventing future capitalist downturns has eluded every past President and all his prestigious, high-priced economic advisers.

"Since President Obama's program is not basically different from earlier presidential programs, there is no reason to expect him to succeed either."

Capitalism hasn't done that. People with little to no skills have consigned themselves to that. The problem is they offer little to nothing yet demand the top when it comes to pay.

There are two types of people in the workforce. Those that offer skills and get paid for them or those that offer nothing and expect to get paid like those of us who do.

Part of my job involves writing citations. When I write one, I don't give a shit whether the person is rich, poor, or in between. I care whether or not they did what they did to get the citation. It's simple. If you don't want the ticket, don't violate the rules. However, I don't care what result it produces you personally.

Capitalism has produced the Great Recession which greatly reduced local tax coffers. People with little to no skills aren't deserving of top pay, and they are not deserving of corrupt local judges and others who attempt to justify their entitlement to top pay by preying on the poor:
"Ronald J Brockmeyer, who is accused of fixing traffic tickets for himself and associates, was a driving force behind using fines and fees to generate revenue

"The judge in Ferguson, Missouri, who is accused of fixing traffic tickets for himself and colleagues while inflicting a punishing regime of fines and fees on the city's residents, also owes more than $170,000 in unpaid taxes."

Lots of corruption going around, you can have a field day in DC alone. Capitalism causes wealth, what people do with it is another matter. If the government takes it and hands it around there's less capitalism, so less wealth.

When government allows mortgage fraud at the level that spawned the Great Recession, allows the rich parasites who perpetrated the fraud to escape prosecution, and then makes up lost tax revenue by fining and jailing the poor, corruption and racism appear to be endemic to capitalism; more wealth in fewer hands with each passing generation will only produce more racist cops. courts and judges.
"Ronald J Brockmeyer, whose court allegedly jailed impoverished defendants unable to pay fines of a few hundred dollars, has a string of outstanding debts to the US government dating back to 2007, according to tax filings obtained by the Guardian from authorities in Missouri.

"Brockmeyer, 70, was this week singled out by Department of Justice investigators as being a driving force behind Ferguson's strategy of using its municipal court to aggressively generate revenues.

"The policy has been blamed for a breakdown in relations between the city's overwhelmingly white authorities and residents, two-thirds of whom are African American. "

corruption and racism appear to be endemic to capitalism;

100% stupid and liberal of course. When you have 132 liberal govt programs to get people into homes the capitalist free market said they could not afford you have socialism not capitalism.

A child could understand that just not a liberal.

When government allows mortgage fraud at the level that spawned the Great Recession,
Government was indeed a big part of the problem with forcing banks into high risk home loans. The banks took it out on us, go figure.

But that isn't capitalism. That's cronyism.

If politics is the shadow big business casts on society, government was doing exactly what the banks paid it to do in the epidemic of mortgage fraud that produced the Great Recession. And they are still at it.
