For countless centuries the Afghan people have steadfastly fought and defeated numerous invaders.
The most two recent were the brutal Russians who thought they could force the Afghans at gun point to embrace godless communist ideology, and the Americans that tried to bomb the Afghans into accepting secular globalism as their new religion.
But the Afghans took a page out of the North Vietnam strategy playbook for winning a war against imperialistic western invaders.
Never, ever, give up, no matter the odd's or number of casualties you suffer. Just keep dragging the fighting on year after year. Eventually, the western country's citizens will grow weary of the loss of soldiers and treasure, and demand their government abandon the ill conceived misadventure of trying to subdue the Afghan people, and withdraw their military from the land. ...

Cutting the heads off of women for the crime of driving a car, learning to read, being seen outside their homes ...

The Taliban are heroin dealers ... what we call "drug lords" here in America ... watch the opium epidemic spiral out of control again ... foreign aid has been cut off, the Taliban have no choice but to manufacture heroin, is this your idea of freedom? ... is your wife/mother/sister on board with your opinions on women? ... do you dress them in sackcloth from head-to-toe ... do you make them walk two paces behind you? ...

I agree invading Afghanistan was a bad idea to begin with ... and both congressional Democrats and Republicans voted in overwhelming numbers in favor of such a stupid action ... but once in, there is no leaving ... we still have military in Germany and Japan and that war ended 85 years ago ...

The Wahhabists should just go live their tradition lifestyle and leave everyone else alone ... we don't see the Amish shooting up Harrisburg PA, now do we? ... if it wasn't for the Taliban's cold-blooded murder, I'd be fine with them, but running Boeing 757's into US government buildings will stop ... well, I guess that makes us have to kill them instead ... their choice ...

They seem to have wanted it more.

Depends how they act in 2000 all drugs were illegal in Afghanistan when they were in control...

Now you are talking uninformed nonsense. ... :cuckoo:

Whether our military stayed 10 more years or even 20 more years in Afghanistan.
The outcome wouldn't have been any different. ...

Then inform us ... what is Sharia Law specifically? ... how is this different from our laws here in the USA, or different from Christian law ... I'm sorry, the Taliban lost the election and they have now taken over the country with guns ... is this what you support? ... do you believe the Jan 6th rioters should have shot their way into the Capitol basement and murdered all the senators and congressmen hiding down there? ...

... cold-blooded murderers ... and you think this pleases Allah? ...

I said 85 years at least ... more like a couple of hundred years for the Afghans to rebuild their country under US protection ...

You accuse me of being uninformed yet you won't address the heroin problem there ... sounds like you're the one uninformed ...

When the Taliban took control pf Afghanistan, one of the first things they did was outlaw heroin production and destroy the poppy fields.
But after Afghanistan was invaded the US military started protecting the poppy fields and heron production resumed.
So the Taliban got into the business in order to fund their weapons purchases.
But now with the Taliban back in control of Afghanistan. I believe the growing of poppies will once again be outlawed and the fields destroyed. ...

Ah ... so you're grossly uninformed ... Afghanistan produced half the world's opium in all but 2001 ... the Taliban only curtailed their production that one year ...

Citation: G. Farrell, J. Thorne; "Where have all the Flowers Gone; Evaluation of the Taliban Crackdown Against Opium Poppy Cultivation in Afghanistan"; International Journal of Drug Policy; 16 (2005); pgs 81–91 ...

I had some Persian friends growing up ... they talked about when the Shah outlawed opium in Iran, the government continued to supply the elderly folks who were firmly addicted ... God that was good stuff, really good ... damn ... really really really really really good ... "Opium cures everything, but there's no cure for opium" ...

Yeah...no.
As a soldier who spent 4 years there said - "Afghanistan is like no other country in the world. They have zero national pride or concern about absolutely anything other than their families and immediate tribe. They could care less what happens 20 miles away from them as long as it doesn't affect them, they could care less who controls the country as long as they can scratch out an existence."
This kind of mentality makes it impossible for a sustainable decent society or political system to exist. And is a PERFECT location for evil to thrive. A highly superior military can come in, and they just disappear and wait it out. When you leave, they come back.
They are cock roaches.

Unless we had been willing to commit genocide. The only way to end extremism over there would be to exterminate the population, which obviously is Hitler-level insanity.
