Love, respect and understanding is something we should all have.

To begin with, we are born from a mother's womb and from the semen of the father, meaning that we owe our life to other people. In addition, we also depend on many others for our happiness and well-being, given that we need doctors for our health, we need educators for our knowledge, we need businesses for our living (such as groceries for our food, businesses for our transportation, clothing, etc).

We do not fully live due to our own means, meaning that we need to generally have the same consideration for others as we would like to have given to us, given that we live in a nation/community where everyone is somewhat dependent on others to survive and prosper. We want and desire love, respect and understanding and as such, we need to give the same for everyone else.

Having said that, each of us have different needs, wants and desires and that is where the problem begins and where we need to have understanding come into play. Understanding means that each person has a different character, education, upbringing, ideology and beliefs and though it is often difficult to understand and live with something that is totally different to who/what we are, we do need to realize that it is a fact of life. We must accept it and learn to live/cope with it.

It is certainly understandable that our emotions often take over as we refuse to accept things that are contrary to what we believe in. Nonetheless, we need to put our emotions aside and use our brains that tell us that we live in a community/nation where each person plays a part in it and that there is nothing we can do to change it (not in our ability to do so).

In addition, we also need to realize/accept that the cold hard fact that humans are fallible (part of our DNA) and that perfection is impossible and that accepting the bad with the good is the only way that we can ever find love, respect and understanding to be part of our lives, not only for others to give but us to offer it ourselves.

This is not to say that we need to have those that are totally opposite to who we are be a chosen part of our lives as that would not accomplish happiness and peace, which is a need in all of us. It does mean that the thing to do is to shut those people out of our everyday lives and only address them when the situation requires us to do so. Shutting them out of our lives does not mean doing anything aggressive to those that we personally dislike (or hate). It means not addressing them at all and letting them live their own lives, as long as they don't personally affect our lives in a meaningful way.

What this all means is that the solution begins with us (not with others). We need to understand that in order to receive love, respect and understanding, we need to give it first ourselves.

End of story!

Here is a poem I wrote some 40 years ago that "somewhat" talks about what this thread is about!

Multitude

Deep despair upon the waking of each morn
To feel the palpable pitfalls to befall us every day
Constantly searching for that illusory road
To take us to an everlasting and fulfilling aim

A multitude of pleadings voices are waiting to be heard
Their deep and anguished souls wishing to be loved
Forever doomed to sit astride a fleeting ray of hope
In search of someone with a loving heart

Short but sweet moments of happiness are often found
Upon the arms of those who feel in kind
Love blossoms for a brief and wondrous moment
But often vanishes swiftly like a scared and skittish cat

Bosoms clutching eternal hope for celestial beams of light
Which will clearly signify the end of all the strife
Everlasting peace is where the search does always go
Praying that when its found it will forever last

Ambrosial thoughts pervade our thinking minds
Of conceivable, achievable drafts that we can use
To paint our way, we choose the color gold
Our emblem of a harmoniously concluded life

Joyous precious thoughts forever begging to be born
To bask upon the ecstasy of real true love
The flickering candle of our burning soul
To hold its flame until our last and final gasp

Love fulfilled beyond our wildest hopes
The valiant quest which fills our empty lives
If we, but once, can achieve that hard elusive goal
Our tired souls can rest in peace for all of time.

Typical leftwing elitist mumble jumbo. The idea that I have to accept the bad (Mamdumbo-mayor of NYC) and any communist is silly. We have been negotiating with evil leftists for decades and we have fallen off the cliff of good and decency. Evil never negotiates equally for everyone's good. Just look at the Democrat Party. Most are not far left commies yet it's the far left commies that are controlling the Democrat Party. Schumer can't open the government because he's afraid AOC will beat him in a primary.

My way of thinking has nothing to do with politics. It is all about what each of us faces in life, irregardless if politics. On both sides, there are people that fail those basics.

You cannot get away from politics. That is impossible. The both sides response is old and doesn't work anymore. The conservatives are not becoming fascists. But, the leftists are becoming communists.

Then all of these souls will be suffering worse in their next lives. That is not something we can do anything about. It is their destiny. The only person that you can help is yourself. What is your purpose for talking about them?

What are you talking about? You attempt to help everyone. But, not everyone is going to want to be helped for this life or the next. That isn't what you were talking about.

There was a time when I could not have related to this comment but now I do. The Dr. Ian Stevenson research related to this is fascinating. So is the Walter Semkiw M. D. research.

The irony (and contradiction) in America is that there has never been a better time for the independent thinker to succeed while at the same time so many are dependent on others for their survival.
