Ahmad
How do you feel about these verses?
"Kill them wherever you find them" (Qur'an 2:191); "Kill them wherever you find them" (Qur'an 4:89); "Kill the idolaters wherever you find them" (Qur'an 9:5); "When you meet the unbelievers, strike necks" (Qur'an 47:4).
Thank you for asking. When I read this, I don't understand anything that concerns me. I understand that this was a command from God to Muhammad (peace be upon him), because Muhammad (peace be upon him) was at war, for many years, against people most cruel and most barbaric. Muhammad is known as the Fighting Messenger. His Companions on the battle field would recite poetry (to motivate themselves). At war, you need motivation, ask the US soldiers who went in Iraq. This is the point of these verses. I know from childhood God is generous and good to all. That's obvious, to me and to everyone who believes in God. So when I read these verses, I know what to understand and what not to understand.
But if want all the women to love me, and all the men to dream to be me, I am going to understand something else; that's as simple as that. So blame those guys, but don't blame Islam. And don't think it is my duty to go tell them anything whatsoever.
