No one really knows as the eyewitness accounts vary. My personal belief is he did, but I do know shooters today, who can make that sort of shot over 80% of the time offhand.

It is. And it looks the same to the shooter as the 12" bull at 200yds.
Point is, the average shooter can see well enough to shoot accurately at 1000 with open sights.
