On Wednesday night, 19 police officers and 17 protesters were injured during protests in front of the country's parliament.
The announcement earlier this week by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic that a curfew had been imposed to curb the spread of the coronavirus has sparked massive protests in the Serbian capital, and Vucic has decided to backtrack on his decision.

Up to 80% of all test positive persons remain symptom-free. Even among 70-79 year olds, about 60% remain symptom-free. Over 95% of all persons show at most moderate symptoms.
Up to 60% of all persons already have some cellular background immunity against Covid-19 due to contact with previous corona viruses (i.e. cold viruses). The original assumption that there was no immunity to Covid-19 was not correct.
The median age of the deceased in most countries (including Italy) is over 80 years (e.g. in Sweden 86 years) and only about 4% of the deceased had no serious previous illnesses. The death profile thus corresponds essentially to normal mortality.
In many countries, up to two thirds of all deaths occurred in nursing homes that do not benefit from a general lockdown. Moreover, it is often not clear whether these people really died of Covid-19 or of weeks of stress and isolation.
Up to 30% of all additional deaths were not caused by Covid19, but by the consequences of lockdown, panic and fear. For example, the treatment of heart attacks and strokes decreased by up to 60% because patients no longer dared to go to hospital.
Even in the so-called "Covid19 deaths" it is often not clear whether they died of or with coronaviruses (i.e. of the previous diseases) or were not tested at all as "suspect cases". However, the official figures often do not reflect these distinctions.
Many media reports, according to which young and healthy people also died from Covid19, turned out to be wrong: Many of these young people either did not die from Covid19, since they had already been seriously ill (e.g. from leukaemia), or they were 109 instead of 9 years old. The alleged increase in Kawasaki's disease in children was also a false report.
Regionally strong increases in mortality can occur if there is a collapse of the care of the elderly and sick due to infection or panic, or if there are additional risk factors such as severe air pollution. Questionable regulations for dealing with the deceased sometimes led to additional bottlenecks in funerals and cremations.
In countries such as Italy and Spain, and to some extent Great Britain and the USA, even waves of influenza have already led to hospital congestion. In addition, up to 15% of doctors and nurses, even without symptoms, are currently in quarantine.
The often shown exponential curves with "corona cases" are misleading, as the number of tests also increased exponentially. In most countries, the ratio of positive tests to tests overall (the so-called positive rate) remained constant at 5% to 25% or increased only slightly. The peak of the spread was already reached in most countries before the lockdown.
Countries without curfews, such as Japan, South Korea, Belarus and Sweden, did not experience a more negative course than many other countries. Sweden was even praised by the WHO as an exemplary model and now benefits from a high level of immunity.
The fear of a shortage of ventilators was unjustified. According to lung specialists, the invasive ventilation (intubation) of Covid19 patients, which was partly done out of fear of the virus, is also often counterproductive and additionally damages the lungs.
Various studies have shown that the main transmission of the virus does not occur through long-range aerosols (particles suspended in the air) or via surfaces, but rather through direct body contact and droplets when coughing and sneezing.
The effectiveness of masks on healthy and symptom-free persons remains scientifically questionable. Experts also warn that such masks can interfere with breathing and can become "germinators" (read more).
