This is really sad. I haven't heard about somebody overdosing on caffeine before, but no child that age should be drinking caffeine period in my opinion. RIP to this poor baby. 😞

It has been recognized for decades that Mountain Dew is a public health hazard in certain places in the South, Rural settings, most notably in the small mountain communities in Appalachia

Obesity. Diabetes. By now, we've all heard of the health risks posed by drinking too much soda.
But over in Appalachia, the region that stretches roughly from southern New York state to Alabama, the fight against soda is targeting an altogether different concern: rotted teeth.

Public health advocates say soft drinks are driving the region's alarmingly high incidence of eroded brown teeth — a phenomenon dubbed "Mountain Dew mouth," after the region's favorite drink. They want to tackle the problem with policies, including restricting soda purchases with food stamps (now called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and currently under debate in Congress).

"We are using taxpayer dollars to buy soda for the SNAP program, and we are using taxpayer dollars to rip teeth out of people's heads who can't afford dental care and are on Medicaid," says Dana Singer, a research analyst at the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department in Parkersburg, W.Va., who wants to see stricter regulations on sales of all sugary beverages in the region. "It makes no sense to be paying for these things twice."

The beverage industry has repeatedly challenged claims that its products are destroying teeth. But dentists beg to differ.

The marketing may help sell Mountain Dew, but like any soda, it is anything but healthy. In fact, Mountain Dew is known to have a higher level of caffeine than other sodas. A 12-ounce can of Mountain Dew has 54 milligrams of caffeine, while a 12-ounce Coca-Cola has 34 milligrams and a can of Pepsi is 38 milligrams, per the Center for Science in the Public Interest. In the United States, Mountain Dew is easy to find at grocery stores and gas stations, but Mountain Dew isn't available in some countries.

As far as nutritionists go...........Mountain Dew is THE WORST soda on the market. It's 100 times worse than Coke on your body, your system, and your brain.

I don't see how people drink it, I've tasted it before and it tastes like toxic sewage drainoff to me.

Back in the 90s I worked weekends at the local mall at Foleys (used to be Sangar Harris) (Macys bought them out, so they are all Macys now).

Anyway...........I was standing at one of the registers one day straighting stuff up. I looked up to see this fat ******* cow with a TINY little red baby in the stroller, and an old woman with them, which I took to be her mother.

The baby started fussing, and right there in front of me.........she pulled out a baby bottle and a can of COKE and poured it all in the bottle and gave it to the baby!!!!!

I wanted to go over there and put my fist thru that ******* bitchs face!!!!!

I was SO ******* livid, I had to take my break and walk it off in the mall.

On hindsight, I should have called CPS on the ****.

Another example where government interference leads to more gov waste and stupidity. Abolish welfare.

You should have gone to jail after having your nose broken.

You're not so far off the mark:

Mountain Dew was made using brominated vegetable oil, or BVO, a food additive, which is considered a controversial ingredient. One of the substances in BVO is bromine, a naturally occurring element that is red and brown with a strong scent similar to bleach that stays in liquid form when at room temperature, according to the CDC.
Although bromine comes from the Earth's crust and can also be found in seawater (via CDC), being exposed or consuming large quantities could pose health risks. "Bromine works by directly irritating the skin, mucous membranes, and tissues," according to the CDC. As if this wasn't sufficient cause for alarm, "bromine can build up in the body and potentially lead to memory loss, as well as skin and nerve problems," per Stacker, but this is usually based on excessive consumption (via the Mayo Clinic).

According to that People magazine website write up, that little girl has a brother who went into a coma because of him being given pretty much the same treatment that she received, only I guess that he never died like she did.

God bless you and that boy always!!!

Holly

P.S. Hell isn't going to be hot enough for certain people on this planet.
