Yup. This one is on the Republicans. No question. The Dems weren't the one's who denied a hearing to a nominee or denied a president his right to fill a vacancy for purely political reasons. All this other crap they're throwing in? It's just flailing for the moral highroad, washed away in their power grab flood.
Bork
Nope.

Who filled that vacancy?

Refusing to vote to confirm is different (Harriet Myers was another who didn't make the cut, and that from both parties) - from refusing to even hold a hearing on a bogus claim 9 months was too close to an election...
9 months is too close to an election?

preference. not the constitution. constitution says nothing to support this.

We all remember this. He rolled the dice and crapped out. If it was still 60 votes to confirm a judge, none of Trump’s judges would have been confirmed. THAT SHIT IS ON THE DEMS. THOSE ASSHOLES CHANGED THE RULES.

That they did and its bitten them in the ass ever since. Not to smart. But then what does one expect from a man who sucked off the tax payer tit for decades.
Just desserts for that piece of shit Harry Reid.

There is not one Dim currently in Congress that is not a lying sack of shit. Not one. They are in lockstep.
Gotta agree. Most politicians are scum who never worked a day in their lives.
The only thing most care about is power and an easy life paid for by we the tax payer.

I'm sure the Founders never envisioned professional politicians when they wrote the Constitution. They sure as hell would never expect tax payers to pay their wages.
There really needs to be term limits for Congress. It is concerning that people in their late 80s still want to be in Congress. It is too lucrative and too powerful. Someone who is 85 should be enjoying time with grandkids and family...not making decisions for 330 million people.

535 people making decisions for 330 million has some down side. The fact that Pelosi can block relief for businesses forced to close is very troubling.

Pubs in Congress are also a concern. Grassley is head of the Senate Judiciary committee at 87??? What the fuck?

Congress has a shit ton of corrupt assholes in their 70s and 80s. Maybe that is the key to a long life. Steal money from hard working folks and tell them how to live.

Obama's pick wouldn't of got the votes in a republican controlled senate. Elections have consequences!

Garland was a Moderate

McConnell made it clear he would not allow Obama to fill the seat regardless of the choice

Untrue. Democrats did not get rid of the 60 vote requirement for Supreme Court justices. Republicans did that. The change was for lower cfourt justices and other federal appointments which was being blocked by Republicans.

Fact check: GOP ended Senate filibuster on Supreme Court nominees (usatoday.com)

Yeah, you're right, but Harry Reid did open the door for the change.
It wouldn't have happened without his boneheaded decision.

Harry Reid wanted to install partisan hacks to the court.

They couldn't nominate a judge that could get 10 republicans. If they came to the middle a little bit they probably could have gotten 10 republicans for a moderate judge.

If you believe Democrat propaganda like this you are an idiot.
The fact is that Republicans were determined not to give give Obama anything or even consider it. Merrick Garland was a moderqate and they refusewd to even consider it.

Moscow Mitch was the one who changed the rule to allow SC justices to be confirmed by a simple majority.

That's okay the Constitution provides various means to rectify the situation.
Just WHO opened that door? If not for the fact of what Dingy Harry pushed, we would not be having this thread.
Yes we would. I have no doubt that McConnell would have done it anyway. McConnell is one of the most corrupt politicians ever.

Yes we do. He had a paper trail so to speak. Also he was in his early 60s so he would not have been on the court for a long time.

Poor boo
Having Barrett shoved down their throats might be a wake up call for liberals to push for change beginning at the State and local level. Then liberals can push for amendments to put more constitutional checks on the authoritarian bent of the Banana Republicans, or any party thereafter who wants to follow in their footsteps.
So you see the hypocrisy of the Senate Dems in the Gorsuch confirmation over Kegan and Sotomayor. You wont address is because you know they are corrupt and Gorsuch was qualified,
There was no corruption. Republicans are corrupt.

Harry Reid lied about changing the rules, and CNN posted the lies....FAKE NEWS.

It was Mitch, not Harry, but Harry said it was him.

What a liar.

Well, you can have your opinion on what YOU think. Reid actually did it, and you avoided his name. Sorry, that carries weight with me.

Well, it will be 5-4 soon for the preservation of the Constitution. 5-4 because Roberts is a liberal.

I notice none of these Senators is arguing that Obamacare is Constitutional. They know it is not.
It is constitutionaol. Republicans are legislating from the bench. Republicans claim legislative supremacy when it is something they want but legislate from the bench when they do not. Roberts has pointed out that Republicans have been able to get rid of Obamacare and now want the courts to do their dirty work.
