They all KNOW when Trump says something he means it.
If he tells Asad there is a new sheriff in town with a can of red spray paint you can be 100% guaranteed Assad will NEVER cross any 'red line' laid down by Trump.
It may take a few VERY unpleasant experiences on the part of some 'world leaders' until some of them get the message.

lets hope that Trumps experience in negotiating will give him the ability to lay down the law, make world leaders understand that he is not going to put up with their crap, and that he can do it without having to resort to anything that might be considered unpleasant experiences.

The Chinese have already lifted any tech specs they were curious about, and they may have "bugged" it somehow, so Trump is probably right. It is also a way of thumbing his nose at China, isn't it?, when he says their action is basically beneath his notice. Like ignoring a pesky tease.

The drone isn't the point. The Chinese have reached the point where they couldn't give a **** what the official Obama's administration response is.
The Chinese decided to rub Obama's cowardliness in his face one more time just for fun.

I think the truth is, China has a guilty conscience and is a little paranoid that we were spying--because China is illegally ramping up its military presence in the South China Sea. Now they know it wasn't a spy mission, and oops--awkward--how to gracefully give it back.

I'm not sure what was in Trump's mind, but to my mind this was a blatant act of piracy on the high seas by China and it shouldn't have been handled by secret negotiations between the Chinese military and the US military. China asserted its claim to that area by stealing the drone, but according to US policy the drone was in international waters. By allowing China to claim it only took the drone prevent an accidental collision with unspecified shipping, the US acknowledged China's claim of jurisdiction in this area.

So what is the real US policy with respect to the South China Sea? No one seems to know, at least no one in the present US government.
