IMO just one more deliberate corruption of American values and traditions.
The original production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" was not intended to be theology but was intended to be entertainment. Making something so profoundly important to Christians into entertainment in that way was seen by many, if not most, Christians at best insulting and by some, including Billy Graham, as bordering on blasphemy and sacrilege.
So a remake is not particularly exciting to most. To make it 'woke' will be seen as pretty much another example of tearing down American faith, culture, values in an attempt to remake America into something it never was and was never intended to be. That trend is both sinister and evil.
Note: The "Oh God" movies were not disrespectful in the way they were done, even though the entertainment aspect was humorous. The main objection to that was the more Deist aspect of the theology which is counter to true Christianity. Superstar is objectionable because it dismisses faith/theology from Christianity altogether.
