A lot of small businesses would crash if the gov't decides to evaluate your property on whatever unrealized value standard they want to use. And the cost of doing so would diminish the revenue received. If we're talking about realized capital gains, that's one thing if a property or business gets sold, but otherwise the gov't oughta keep their greedy paws off of an income producing asset. Tax the income but not the property, beyond the state property tax that is already being paid.

Like many billionaires who hit it big, Musk and Tesla got a massive $460 million loan from Obama and the Federal government back in 2010, which saved Musk and his company from bankruptcy.

As a "grateful patriot", Musk should be willing to pay extra taxes since the U.S. government helped him achieve tremendous wealth.
