Lebron thinks he is the GOAT in the NBA. Do you agree with him?

Someone just made a great point. If Russell was on any other team, he wouldn't have won those 11 championships. That team was so far superior to every other team. If he left it they'd probably still win all those championships.

Jordan held that team together to 3peat twice. Their team wasn't far superior to all the teams they played. They were just better every time because they had the greatest player on the planet.

Compared to SGA last night. He was great. But he didn't pull a Jordan. So he will never be Jordan. The GOAT. SGA pulled a Lebron last night. See the difference?
The then Celtics had a stranglehold on talent and there were regional claims to college players. They also traded for youth and removed older players with a little time left. Another era.

Being the best player isn’t about stat sheets.
Of course it is. What other objective measurement would you use? That being said, there are problems with using specific time periods as a basis for comparison. For example, single game records do not reflect the quality of the opposition, and career records are more a measure of longevity than of peak performance ability.

The best time period to use for individual comparison is probably single season records, using a variety of statistics to determine who might be the GOAT. This should include points scored, shooting percentage, assists, steals, rebounds and blocked shots.

Who would you nominate on this basis?

I’ll give you this. Tne logical pretzel you’re willing to twist yourself into to suck MJs dick is impressive
Now this is a pretzel. Highest share of team points in a NBA finals?

Lebron may have more championships if he knew how to carry a load.

I hated Jordan. Rooted against him every game. But all I can say at the end of his career was that was the greatest basketball player I’ve every seen. Based on what I saw. Forget regular season nonsense. All we care about is playoff results and performances.

Can you agree Jordan was the goat when he retired?

So for years we argued with people who say Kobe was better.

Now it’s Lebron.

To be honest, if there was no Jordan I’d probably be saying the black mamba was better than Lebron. For all the same reasons. More of a must win attitude.

Lebron is a great piece to have on your team to win a championship but Jordan was better.

Compare Lebron to pippin

Kobe isnt even in the top 5. He was never the best player in the league while he was playing. LeBron was inarguably the best player on the planet from basically a decade.

I googled "was Kobe ever the best player in the league?"

Jordan and Kobe are the best players I've ever seen. From 2001-2011 he was the best in the league! If you wanna say he's not top 3, okay, but to act like he was never the best player in the league is just dishonest. If we talking about best, just off skill level, winning, killer instinct, he was the best from 01-11.

Bryant won the 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award, but lost the NBA Finals that same season.

Gosh, I always thought of him as the next Jordan until Lebron took that over. Who was better than Kobe besides Lebron and Jordan?

4 more seasons than Stockton and still doesn't have as many assists??? He has a lot of records because he played 23 seasons.

In 15 seasons Michael Jordan scored 32,292 points. LeBron scored 31,038 points in the regular season during his first 15 NBA seasons.

Throw out the other 8 seasons Jordan was better.

And spot Lebron 4 seasons and Stockton is better than him.

If you factor in how many seasons Lebron played no shit he is 1st all time in points. So why isn't he 1st in assists???

LeBron doesn't play PG you Muppet. Top 5 in both points AND assists is legendary. In year 23 he's still a top 20 player in the league. Stockton has a couple thousand more assists and half the points. So sure he has more assists than James, and shows up on page 10 of the all time points leaders....

And how many assists, rebounds did Jordan have? How many more shots did Jordan have to take to get those 1k points?

Jordan took 1.22 shots for every point scored. LeBron took 1.11. So, Jordan just took more shots (and missed more) rather than making his team mates better, rather than making the right basketball play. Who wants to win more the guy who forces a bad shot or the guy who gives up the ball because someone else has a better shot and thus gives his team a better chance to win?
Throw out the other 8 seasons Jordan was better.
If my Aunt had balls she'd be my Uncle. You dont just get to ignore 8 seasons of basketball because they dont fit your narrative.

Are you seriously this epically stupid?

What postion does every other player primarily play in the top 10 of the assist list?

Hint: it's not forward which is what James plays.

No one has said LeBron is a better scorer than Jordan. They've never said he was a better assist machine than Stockton. He's a better overall basketball player.

Ok buddy.

Well think about it. In the same number of seasons, Jordan scored more than Lebron and and he won more. You want to just ignore that? You want to give Lebron extra credit for playing more years and I get that but apples to apples Jordan ate Lebron's apples just like he did everyone else.

So he played longer than Jordan. That's all.

LeBron James has scored a staggering 43,440 regular-season points in his NBA career. When adding his 8,521 career playoff points, his all-time combined total is well over 51,000 points, making him the only player in NBA history to reach these monumental milestones.

Jordan played 15 seasons. Lebron 23. 8 more seasons. Jordan played 3 years in college. Oh, and Jordan knew when to quit. When to walk away. He didn't stay in the league too long just to rack up more points.

What do you say? Is Lebron or Michael the GOAT in the NBA? I say it's still about the number of championships. That's why Nicklaus is the GOAT in golf and Brady is the GOAT in football and Michael is the GOAT of the NBA. Lebron has a case given his longevity and 4 rings with 3 different teams. But the number is still SIX set by Michael.
I just watched 30 for 30 Lakers vs Celtics. Larry Bird was the greatest player in the league the years he was there and I have no doubt in my mind if he played against Lebron he would have killed him. If he played against Jordan 6 times in the finals he would have won a couple of championships too.

Also, that Celtics team might be one of the GOAT

  • The Starting Five: Larry Bird (MVP), Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, Dennis Johnson, and Danny Ainge. This unit is considered by many to be among the greatest starting lineups of all time.
  • The Bench:
Highlighted by Hall of Famer Bill Walton, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award.
    5 Hall of Famers
  • 4 white guys
    • Overall Record: Bird holds a 17-11 winning record against Jordan in regular-season matchups.
    • Michael Jordan: 6x NBA Champion, 5x regular-season MVP, 6x Finals MVP, and 14x All-Star. Holds the highest career scoring average in NBA history (30.1 PPG).

      • Larry Bird: 3x NBA Champion, 3x consecutive MVP (1984–1986), 2x Finals MVP, and 12x All-Star. Averaged 24.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 6.3 assists for his career.
