Last combat troops leave Iraq - another Obama promise kept

Looks like we're just replacing troops with an army of civilian contractors.

Civilians to take U.S. lead after military leaves
Obama administration plans a small army of contractors to fill void in Iraq

As the United States military prepares to leave Iraq by the end of 2011, the Obama administration is planning a remarkable civilian effort, buttressed by a small army of contractors, to fill the void.

By October 2011, the State Department will assume responsibility for training the Iraqi police, a task that will largely be carried out by contractors. With no American soldiers to defuse sectarian tensions in northern Iraq, it will be up to American diplomats in two new $100 million outposts to head off potential confrontations between the Iraqi Army and Kurdish pesh merga forces.

To protect the civilians in a country that is still home to insurgents with Al Qaeda and Iranian-backed militias, the State Department is planning to more than double its private security guards, up to as many as 7,000, according to administration officials who disclosed new details of the plan. Defending five fortified compounds across the country, the security contractors would operate radars to warn of enemy rocket attacks, search for roadside bombs, fly reconnaissance drones and even staff quick
reaction forces to aid civilians in distress, the officials said.

“I don’t think State has ever operated on its own, independent of the U.S. military, in an environment that is quite as threatening on such a large scale,” said James Dobbins, a former ambassador who has seen his share of trouble spots as a special envoy for Afghanistan, Bosnia, Haiti, Kosovo and Somalia. “It is unprecedented in scale.”

I wish I could help fox, they have lost their American loyalty due to severe partisanship

You are so full of shit.

I was watching O'Reilly last night and Shep Smith came on with a news alert. The troops are LEAVING IRAQ.

On Morning Joe this AM they were talking about the withdrawal and it was the Bush administrations timetable. OL'BO just had the good sense to stick with it.

There will be approx. 56,000 troops left in Iraq. Non Combat and loads of contractors.

Lets just hope the Iraqi's can make their country happen.

Obama has done a very good job.

His only mistake has been trying to cooperate with the Republicans.

The only reason that withdrawal of troops is feasible now is due to the success of the Bush-Petraeus Surge, which Senator Obama opposed.
.....And, so ends the pro-active-combat end of (what will ALWAYS be considered) THE CHICKENHAWK'S WAR....those GUTLESS John-Wayne-fans (who'd DODGED 'NAM), who couldn't wait to prove their manhood, by starting-and-supporting a WAR, somewhere....ANYwhere....as-long-as someone-else's kids did all the fightin' & DYIN'!!!!

We can only HOPE those poor-chumps (who'd chosen to stay-behind, and clean-up what's LEFT of BU$HCO'$ DEBACLE) will eventually return home.....relatively-unscathed; in mind and body.

There was a reason Fox did not televise the departure from Iraq. The only station that was able to televise the troops leaving Iraq was NBC:

The network had, in Olbermann's words, "a world exclusive" with NBC News chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel and his cameraman Craig White, live, embedded with the final convoy to leave Iraq. White was David Bloom's cameraman in April, 2003, when the NBC News anchor died during the U.S.-led invasion. Seven years later, Engel and White used the so-called Bloom mobile to report the final troop departure.

Said Maddow at the top of the 9pmET hour, "The reason no one else in all of TV and all the world is able to bring you the image that we've been able to broadcast ... and no one else can show you footage like this is because NBC has technology to do this like no one else has."

Fox News first mentioned the troop movements during "Special Report" at 6:10pmET, led with the story and reported it extensively during FOX Report at 7pmET. No mention was made during "The O'Reilly Factor" which is pre-taped earlier in the evening. Shepard Smith anchored a live update at 8:12pmET during "The Factor." Coverage was sporadic during "Hannity" at 9pmET and "On the Record" at 10pmET.

Because it was a planned propaganda stunt. ;)

Well, I got mixed feelings.

For one, all combat troops have NOT left Iraq. All allied combat troops maybe. But Al Qaida and Iranian intell troops are still there. Wonder what they're waiting on.........

Oh, yeah, for us to leave. Which we're doing. Not gonna be good in a year or two.

BUT.....if we must be led by Obama for another 2 years, then I'm happy for our troops that they are coming home and won't have to fight 1 more day under the piss poor leadership of this clown we have for a CIC.
You DARE defile the name o' General Georgie??!!!

I'm glad more are coming home yet 50000 will still be there, a fleet of ships will still be in the area, civilian forces are increasing, there is still violence and more Americans; I'm afraid; will die because of this horrible **** up that never should have happened to begin with.

Now; when we do leave that colossal **** up; who will fill the vacuum, that crap is far from over and we have nothing to show for the billions wasted;squandered; over there and the lives lost but about 20% of the people still denying that it was a colossal **** up to begin with and cursing, spitting and pitching a temper tantrum like a two year old when people says that it was a colossal **** up to begin with.

The day I knowingly vote for ANYONE that supports or ever supported that crap without denouncing it will be the day I hope lightning zaps my ass dead between the eyes!

EXCELS AT PICKING-UP DOG-SHIT!

I was just about to say this. How is the promise kept if our troops are still over there?

I love when civilians speak on things they have no idea what the hell they are talking about.

THEY CANT PULL OUT EVERY SINGLE SOLDIER THERE...it is a gradual thing.

Then why is Obama claiming it as a talking point? 100% chance Dems run on it in November.

But GOOD. I'm glad no troops will be in combat in Iraq at risk for this clown any longer. Hes tying their hands and not serious about winning the war......
Ah, yes.....Stay The Course, huh??
