Land Mines

Nope....not signed onto by Russia or the US. Or maybe Russia did but broke it.....it's not like they really keep any agreements anyway.

Russia never signed it. The US refused, but they did eliminate most of their mines to come mostly in compliance with it. However, the US refuses to stop using command detonated mines.

Can't see why, as Ukraine has been a signatory of the Ottawa Treaty since 1999. However, Russia never signed it and still uses mines.

In response to the mines, the US has released cluster munitions to Ukraine. Instant mine fields that last only a bit of time.

Yeah I figured as much....I heard about it a few days ago and figured they probably would....they aren't exactly the most reliable about detonating upon the expiration of time....often there are some that are still live.
However
They are very effective at denying the enemy access very quickly upon ground your enemy believed to be relatively safe in a war zone which isn't exactly safe to begin with.

Some cluster munitions aren't mines....they are for masses of personnel....IE soldiers covering a field. A single standard shell is only 20% effective in killing them vx a grenade type cluster munition which can injure/destroy up to 80% of the soldiers.

Russia has been using incendiary munitions on Ukrainian cities without restraint. These sterilize an entire area regardless of civilian status. Especially inside city limits.

And this shows how little that individual knows about the topic.

The US has still not sent cluster munitions to Ukraine, the idea is still being considered.

But cluster munitions are not land mines. Yes the US has used those in the past, but not since early in the Vietnam war. While Russia still manufactures and uses cluster munitions that disperse mines, that is very unlike any in the US inventory.

Give it a rest, MAGAt. You think you found a loophole.

Guys,
I don't mind being wrong or being proven wrong with good, reliable source material.

I am really interested in finding solutions to problems that we, as angry humans, have created because of fighting. Not necessarily causing more fighting.

When you make a mess you clean it up!
But in war often the mess maker is not capable of doing so.

So someone else needs to clean it up. So that innocent people are not maimed or killed.

How can these things be cleaned up without having to sift through every square centimeter of dirt and be a relatively inexpensive process? The only solutions I have heard of to date are painstakingly slow, tedious and expensive. When you are talking about a 1,000 acre field (in an area of hundreds of fields like this) so a farmer can plant wheat or soybeans or sunflower.....the expense and time needed for mine removal is not an option. (People need jobs and food)

First off....the video below is definitely NSFW. It's brutal and ugly as war is brutal and ugly. The heroic actions of trying to retrieve fellow soldiers is inspiring but also foolhardy.

What can be done about these mines. Wars and nations end but the landmines stay for decades....and the number one group injured by them is children who aren't even strong enough yet to pick up a gun much less fire one.

There are literally going to be thousands upon thousands of square miles of these things left in Ukraine long after Russia leaves. What can be done?
