We chatted a bit when the airliner struck the fire truck on Runway 4 at La Guardia. A recent report adds a lot more information as to the heroic pilots that died did save lives. There were several errors made that caused the crash. The airliner had the right of way. Keep that in mind. The Fire Truck never should have been approved to cross the runway when it was approved. Who let the fire truck cross? Think that over.

Airliners ALWAYS have the right away. As I recall, the firetruck was on the way across the airport trying to get to respond to another emergency, and got in the way of the landing jet. To my mind, I find it incredible that after all the accidents, all the studies, that we are still doing stupid shit like this. Soon as runway X was cleared for flight ABC to land, a computer system should have red flagged all roadways and ramps leading onto that runway with RED LIGHTS signalling any and all traffic to stay clear of the runway.

How the hell is it possible that we still don't have that yet?

The video explains that. Red lights were on for the Fire Truck that got hit. La Guardia has those lights but the fire truck when hit had no transponders.

I was going to add that when a runway is occupied, all side access should be closed by level crossing barriers that come down and block you like they do when a train is coming about to cross a road.

There is just way too much human error going on in an age where computer automation and AI should easily make it impossible.

How so? They're still voting for Democrats, so crazy is becoming the norm.
