If you are a convicted felon, I suggest mace or some sort of taser/hotstick. And perhaps you should have thought of that before you kicked a man when he was down and then accepted a plea deal that made you a convicted felon.

If you cannot protect your family without a firearm, I would also suggest that you buy an antique black powder revolver. They are not covered by the Gun Control Act of 1968. They are lethal at reasonable ranges and you have multiple shots.
