This is pretty interesting. This guy was a very active MAGA (podcaster, pundit, speaker, activist) and was able to escape. At the very beginning, he describes how he felt "politically lonely", and how MAGA gave him a feeling of belonging, and that "the devotion to Trump stems from the fact that he's the leader of this community". He also describes what we say here all the time, that "MAGA was my complete identity, my entire being and personhood was wrapped up in this community".

Really interesting interview, and again, it confirms what we say here all the time. His gradual awakening and escape are fascinating.

That's always been at the core of it, since the day Limbaugh went national. He knew how to take perfectly reasonable, traditional concerns and amplify them by a factor of 1,000. He didn't care that, when amplified like that, they become distorted, binary, myopic. This has been done not only to every political issue, but to trust in government, the press, the courts, anyone who challenges their worldview.

Then along comes the shameless Pied Piper, a community forms around him that gives them a sense of belonging, and the separation process is complete. As another poster once said here, Trump took one look at the Talk Radio crowd and said, "THIS is gonna be EASY".

Limbaugh perceived the change in the United States. AM Radio was slowly dying. And there were local radio talk stations. The United States around 1971 or so, changed over. It didn't matter if a Republican was in office, all of Johnson's and the then Progs legislation in the id 1960's put us on course to where we are now. Outside forces were involved also. Churches, financiers, elites, entertainment, media shills, etc. With three major TV networks it was difficult to show themselves. With hundreds of them, the propaganda pushing became endless.
