Kansas schools to close early due to no funding....

More Kansas Schools To Close Early For Lack Of Funds

More of them brilliant republican policies! Help the rich to hell with the poor

and if this was the only aspect of the story.....I am sure if we dig enough we will see how these districts got into the financial mess they are in........but telling the truth isn't what that story is about......
Pretty simple actually

Republicans hate education
Here's a link to the basic budget structure of the district that is cutting days. You can't tell me they can't find $190,000.

They have contractual obligations to uphold.

But leave it to Republicans to support the "Race to the Bottom" mentality.

Yeah.....contractual obligations between the democrats in the teachers unions and the politicians granting them their benefits.......who signed those contracts.........that's how that game is played.....it is a scheme to get money from the tax payers for the politicians and the unions......and then blame the republicans when the system collapses.....

I think this is ok, our kids need to learn with less so that we can give tax cuts to the rich and other more important things than education and kids
I think kids and school boards need to learn how to live within their means.

I am sure they have more than enough money right now.....they just spend it all on waste, abuse and corruption.......and then when they come up short for what they are actually supposed to be doing...teaching kids....then they cry poor........

I know how dare teachers get paid a decent wage? Animals.

Should probably do an Audit of Kansas public school funds since I'd think when allocating those funds, enough tog et through a given year is allocated. So if suddenly they run out that it's a news story, someone embezzled or misallocated things.

I know how dare they have a group representing their interests in getting paid for their work? They should be paid in happy dollars rewards because teaching is the true paycheck. It's not like they have a mortgage, a car, and other expenses to live.

Keep fighting for them kids ya hear, they'll be ditch diggers before you know it. And while you applaud cutting their funding you can also complain about how dumb the kids are almost like one has nothing to do with the other.

Isnt cause and effect great?

So they got a 5% budget increase for the year, and yet they have spent it all, even though the 2 years prior they stayed within their budgets with 3-4% increases. This is a cry baby tactic, it would seem. Nothing more.

No.....not a problem....the problem is when the teachers unions give money to the very polticians who will be setting the wages and benefits of the teachers......and the guy who gets stuck...the taxpayer...because the teachers union dues are then funneled to the politicians........so the more the politicians give to the teachers over what is fair and just, goes directly into their campaign coffers from the teachers unions.......

And in the end...shots fired miss teachers and unions and strike the kids center mass and republicans seeing who really pays the price all collectively shrug it off

You really think extra money goes towards the kids? Dream on.

Again....audit these assholes....they are wasting money....does anyone doubt that...and they are doing it to the education of theses kids.....holding the kids hostage for even more money....and then trying to hide their crimes by blaming republicans and saying republicans don't want to educate children...

We have seen this playbook over and over again.......go in there and start arresting people......

Before or after Brownback cut 51 million from the budget?

So you ***** about when a special interest group gives to candidates that YOU don't agree with? OF course there are going to look out for their interests.

The Koch brothers are giving $900 million dollars to the Republicans, not a dissenter in the Republican ranks. Why? Because you benefit. So STFU because you're a hypocrite.

You're right, what good would it do the kids to be attending school anyway? Great point...Kids arent affected by the schools budget being cut. Books are free!

How much does the Superintendent make?
Let's see some of the salaries and benefits packages. Let me see where the money is going. A school district loses $190,000 in funding and they will cut days from the calender instead of fat from the budget? I bet the "study" to make the decision to close early cost $150,000.
well there's a whole bunch of unjustified bullshit.
Except for the "study" quip, what's unjustified?
Scan over the budget synopsis I linked. Don't you think they could find $190K if that was the goal instead of trying to make the Governor look like an evil ogre?
well for one, they don't get to just 'cut' things during the school year. there probably is some fat to be cut, but is there enough between now and the end of the school year? probably not.
of course, it's not like kansas has been meeting it's funding requirements for a while now, so there may not be that much 'fat' to trim.

The Dems and unions always, ALWAYS, say the answer is more money, even though they are getting more money! if you don't think there is waste within administration, let's see if there is a house I can sell you, brand new, worth $10 million, but for you today, I'll let you have it for half that. It's really a great deal!

you would think, but the reality is the state isn't kicking in what they said they would, because the state cut taxes like a lunatic and now doesn't have the money to give to the school districts as promised.

Sorry....not the same ******* thing......we are talking about a system where the politicians vote to raise taxes.....they give that tax money to the teachers unions, who get bigger salaries and benifits which increase how much of those tax dollars they give to the unions in union dues out of their tax payer paid salary, which the teacher union then kick backs to the politicians who raised the taxes and set the benifit levels...

we aren't talking about private people giving their own money.......this is a scheme where the poltician and the teachers unions work together to get tax money for both of their benefit.......

The Koch brothers aren't using tax dollars taken from citizens are they....they made their own money........not even close to being the same thing......

The money the democrat teachers unions give to democrat politicians comes from taxpayers....not from privately generated business revenue.....so shut the **** up and get a ******* clue......

It is a scam......and the teachers unions give even more to democrats........much more....

You misunderstand Ogibillm. He didnt say there IS fat to trim because he would have to know about the budget to say that. What he's doing is throwing out "possibilities" based on not knowing details.

Is there fat to cut? He doesnt know, but it sure sounds good.

Are the schools being irresponsible? Who knows, definitely no Ernie. But anyone can be irresponsible and it sounds bad too! Double score

Sen. Steve Abrams, an Arkansas City Republican and chairman of the Senate Education Committee, revealed Senate Bill 294 as the annual session grinds through its final weeks. It would create a six-district pilot program for funding K-12 schools that would be expanded to as many as 106 districts in the second year, and all districts in the third year, as a block-grant mechanism of distributing state aid expires.

Inaugural districts in the Abrams plan would be Concordia, McPherson, Marysville, Hugoton, Blue Valley and Kansas City, Kan. — the same six districts already designated in state law as “innovative” districts exempt from many state laws and regulations governing management of public schools.

^^^^that is what I see.

I also see standardized tests that lead nowhere but pay beau-coup cash. Yet, I don't find too many democrats that are willing to go up against that. I see a lot of whining by the Democrats but they have zip problems with the hedge fund run charter schools. I see unlicensed teachers and bewilderment of what happened to the middle class.

Nobody is taking me for a ride.

Do you not see, they are playing you like a fiddle. Let's claim poverty, even though noone has suffered, so they will give us what we want.

You watch enough public budget hearings, they sound like cry babies.
Let's see, this I could find it's from 2013

I also noticed that they spent a million on drug testing for welfare recipients.

to be fair to ernie, he posted their budget.
still, it'd be tough to trim up 190k of fat from march to may.
