I had a similar experience, although I went through the 6-3-3 system that had 7th, 8th, and 9th grades at the junior high school. We even had to learn in junior high who were the majority and minority leaders and whips were in Congress and what they did, the positions that make up the president's cabinet, and little things like that all money bills have to originate in the House. This was all taught to us by an ex-Marine who used to slam his massive ring on the blackboard to wake us up, had a little doll called "Tuffy" and handed anyone who had an excuse as to why they didn't have their homework a slip that said "tell it to Tuffy." He also required a complete bibliography on all papers. Footnotes: you better have them. Here's to you, Mr. Turner, wherever you are.

What are they teaching in this country if not this? I've even come across a guy who thought that the U.S. Supreme Court was elected.
