You changed the topic from grocery stores to medical. There has been debate for decades for Medicare for all or government subsidized/controls on pricing for the medical system. There are many other countries with socialized medical systems that aren’t socialist countries. Our own VA is a “socialist” entity. It is a disingenuous argument to take that situation and say it makes somebody a socialist or a country socialist. That’s not what the word means.

No, I’m showing Kamala’s socialist wishes. She freely expressed “snatching” privately owned patents and having government take over production. It doesn’t make it any less alarming because it is pharmaceuticals she’s talking about. It shows what her end goal is: moving toward a failed socialist state.

That’s the argument at least. Why didn’t you present the full context of Kamala’s statement? The governments part in funding these patients certainly plays a part in her plan of regulating the pricing. Why did you exclude that part?

Because it is irrelevant. If a company owns a patent, the fact that the government helped fund research that the company did does not entitle the government to the patent - UNLESS they was a prerequisite of the funding.

They socialists can’t step in after the brilliant work of research physicians led them to the development of the drug, and claim the government can take over. No company would accept government funding if that were the case.

The REASON a company puts in all the time and effort for a new invention is to patent it and make a profit - NOT then let the government take over production. What you and the socialists advocate is a system that would kill any initiative to develop new and vital products.

The two spend three years, while working their regular jobs, drawing up plans, having lots of “misses” as the thingy didn’t work right, and then….voila!…..they figured out a new mechanism that would allow it to function as hoped. They patent it, and start production, and they charge $99 for the thingy, and sell lots of them - making about $300,000 a year, split between the two of them.

Does the government THEN, after my dad and uncle used their engineering brilliance to develop the thing, get to step in, “snatch” the patent, and then claim the government owns it, and start producing it themselves, leaving the inventors of the product high and dry?

Again, the reason a developer works so hard to create a unique solution is to get the patent, and then make a profit. NOBODY would devote years of work to then hand it off to the government for the government to make the profit.

I'm not moving the goalposts. I addressed your statement directly and then asked the question about insulin price capping which is in line with the thread topic which is Kamala's proposal to stop price gouging by setting national price standards for certain products.
