Kamala goes to the Met

I know you will never understand this simple concept but here it is, exactly what would be wrong with them being self sustaining without the need for tax dollars?

Capital idea, you fuckwad.

Why stop with the Post Office?

Let's make the police self-sustaining! Someone ax-murdered Granny. Better be ready to pay the cops for the cost of their investigation!!!!

Let's make the Fire Department self-sustaining. Your House is burning down? Let's charge you to put it out!!!

Get the fuck out my face, you make me sad Saber-tooth tigers don't remove your sort from the Gene Pool anymore.

Boy give children a chance and they go all crazy.

I'm not the one who argued that the Post Office should be for profit only, after requiring an onerous pension funding requirement.

It's like they just enjoy screwing things up.
lol. Kid you sure are a laugh a minute. I guess you do not understand business. If you are delivering packages for what it costs you to do so or for less then it costs that is not a proper way to do things.
I asked what would be wrong if they actually made enough of a profit that the tax payers did not have to bail them out. Your reply was a child’s reply.

No, it was an honest reply that public services should be provided with no concern for profit.

But by all means, make sure you come up with the money before you call the fire department.

No you do not see any other public service charging you before they do their job, then charging the public because they did not collect enough.
So basically you did not have an answer so you resorted to childish insults and bull

I gave you an answer, just not one you liked.

You are right, the PD does not charge you to start an investigation, nor does the FD charge you to put out a fire.

The Post office charges minimal charges to post letters, because it's a public service defined in the constitution.

But you still can’t not give a reason for them not being self sufficient. The police or fire department do not charge you even a minimal fee.
Good for you you found out they are set forth in the constitution. Now show me where it states that they can not be self sufficient. Or for that matter show me where it says that they can under charge for delivery of a letter or package.

I must admit I do not really like the U.S. citizens helping Bezos make more money by paying less to deliver his Amazon packages. But I can understand why you want him to be richer.

1) They'd be self-sufficient without the pension requirements.
2) They are a public service.

Well, that's not entirely true. The Police Department DOES raise revenues through the issuance of traffic, parking, and other fines and citations. You can always tell when it's the end of the month out here in the burbs, when the Squirrel Cops get a lot more aggressive in pulling people over for minor violations.

Actually, the constitution specifically requires the Federal Government to manage the postal service and post roads.

It says nothing about it making a profit, only that it be effective.

Well, let's look at that. Bezos has found that the USPS is more cost effective than UPS. Seems the person making out on that deal is the consumer.

Damn did you read any of the posted articles or are you just going off what you read on Facebook?
Do you even understand what a public service is?
While you want to conflate the leaving of fines with paying postage they are no where near the same. A fine is a violation of the laws set forth by a governmental agency ( be it city, state or whatever). If you receive a fine it is because you violated a law. If you do not violate the laws set forth then you pay no fine. You do not pay a fine up front before you violate the law. When you mail a letter or a package you are paying up front for that letter or package to be delivered.
You are comparing apples and oranges and trying to pretend they are lemons.
Once again the constitution does not say that the post office needs to collect any payment for its services. So since it does why is it unable to be self sufficient?
Of course shipping by USPS is more cost effective for Amazon, especially if the ones doing the shipping are doing it at cost or often for less then the post office pays.
Exactly how in your mind do you think that subsidizing Amazons shipping is such a win for the people? Tax dollars go to subsidize the post office because of its lousy business sense so even those that do not buy from Amazon are are paying to ship its packages.
Now once again I am going to link to a website that someone will have to read and explain to you. If you notice it makes the claim toward the end that even with the requirement of paying into the healthcare retirement fund the post office would have operated at a loss. Not to mention that the people would be on the hook for the cost of this benefit.

First, I never read an article posted by a wingnut. It just doesn't happen.

Second, a public service is exactly that, something that benefits the public as a whole, not just those who can afford it.

Third, Amazon uses the post office because the service is there, and they pay a premium price for it.

Fourth, the only reason why the USPS isn't self-sufficient is because the GOP imposed a scheme on them for their pensions that no other government agency or private enterprise would do. Funding it for 75 years up front? Come on, man!
