Kamala Endorses Dockworkers Strike That Union Boss Boasted Would ‘Cripple’ The Economy

Seriously? What foreign products do they require that cannot be acquired from US companies?

If you buy a foreign car built overseas, you deserve to wait on it. It will not spoil sitting on a ship.

Buying American made products just might catch on after a few months. Anything we need from China probably will just enter through the west coast and endure increased shipping costs by rail.
Much of our life saving medicines are in those ships... as well as food....
It won't take long before we will have a shortage of blood pressure meds... blood thinners... cholesterol meds... Parkinson's medication.... cancer meds... medical equipment like glove masks and needles...

What products will be affected by the port Workers Strike?

Food products likely to be impacted in the nearer term include seafood, coffee and fruits and vegetables grown outside the U.S. And while retailers that likely stocked up beforehand are buffered against an immediate impact, "at some point bananas are going to expire, frozen seafood is going to defrost," Munch said.5 hours ago

They were smart to strike this time of year, this year.
Strikes are like lawsuits. You demand way more than you expect to get, to simply set your initial bargaining amount.

As far as robotics and AI, they're not the only ones wanting assurance, that they won't be replaced.

Negotiations will begin soon, and it will take quite a few meetings until they hammer out what's best for everyone involved. This is a common movie sequel.

It sounds like they're asking for too much, but once you realize that it's over eight years, and that money won't be shit in eight years, it's really not that much.
It’s over five years, and $120.000 won’t be shit then, either - especially when you consider all they’ll rake in with overtime when they demand that the company doesn’t use more efficient machinery.

Has Trump said anything coherent about this issue?

Great! Maybe we will learn to be more self-sufficient like we had to do during COVID. I just do not recommend giving into their monopoly on imported goods. The union needs to take the recent offer or risk being out of work for the rest of their lives. Their companies will go bankrupt and then they will be SOL.

BTW, medicines can be flown. They aren't that heavy.

Anything that is irresponsible in nature and conduct, libs are all in for it.

Go them! How would you feel about it if you were one of them? Can you walk in other's shoes for a mile?

It takes a special kind of nerve to reject a wage of $120,000 as being insufficient when the job requires no higher education and can largely be done by machines.

I walk in the shoes of people who are REALLY struggling under Biden’s inflation - and that would be people earning $50,000.

Biden needs to step in and stop this before the greedy dockworkers start killing people by refusing to deliver their medicines.

She should stay out of it.

She should stay out of it.
No she should not. If the greedy dockworkers are going to start causing such chaos to Americans, disrupting their food supply and access to life-saving medications, then she should do what is right and protect Americans from harm.

She is more concerned with losing the Union vote.

Doesn't work. Air Traffic Controllers were federal employees and banned from Striking.
There’s a 1947 law that allows a president to step in and force them back to work for an 80-day cooling off period. She should enact that.

Americans are going to start dying if she doesn’t.

People are allowed to seek a raise. Odd how dockworkers are greedy but a CEO making multi-millions a year isn't.

Are they asking for a lot right now? Yes, but unless you have been living under a rock, you understand that is how negotiations work.

Sheesh.

I'll let you in on a secret. She isn't the president. Just thought you should know.

It's probably not even her holding Biden's strings, we have to convince that person to get Biden to act.

They rejected an offer of 50% vs. their demand of 77%.

Are these dockworkers also the ones who collect your luggage at the cruise port? I give them a $5 tip, and there is a steady line behind me. Each traveling party takes less than 5 minutes. Let’s just say 10 minutes between cars, which means 6 cars per hour - or $30 an hour in tips.

I always thought these were minimum wage workers. Are people saying that they are among those now earning a base salary of $80,000 or so, PLUS the tips? The tips alone are equivalent to $60,000 a year, and since they probably don’t declare much of that, they are earning an equivalent of $150,000.

What the h?

Who’s your guess? I think Obama still has control of the party.

Naturally.

The union is big donors to Democrats. The union also refuses to allow computerization, modernization.

Yeah, they're thuggish.

Vice President Kamala Harris sided Wednesday with dockworkers who launched a massive strike this week that threatens to cripple the economy.
...
The dockworkers union has donated more than $1.6 million to Democrats under union president Harold Daggett, who threatened to “cripple” the economy if dockworkers did not get the contract they wanted.
...
Daggett made $728,000 last year as union president, plus another $173,000 as president emeritus of the New Jersey local, POLITICO reported.
The strike snarls supply chains and is likely to cause delays or even shortages of products like coffee, bananas, cars, clothing, and Christmas decorations. The union rejected a last-minute deal from port ownership which offered the union a nearly 50% wage raise. The union had demanded higher wages and zero port automation.
President Joe Biden could pause the strike for 80 days under the Taft-Hartley Act, but he has indicated he has no intention of doing so. Some have speculated that the president is unwilling to go out of his way to help Harris after Democrats ousted him from the presidential ticket, while others have wondered if the administration is simply courting the union vote.
...

How dare her side with the workers and not big business.

What pisses me off is the fact that what the victims of the hurricane need is sitting in ships off shore...
**** these workers.... they need to go back to work and strike at another time.... after we help our people out....

Which products are those?
