I do feel sorry for our soldiers who fought and died in Afghanistan thinking it was worth it and would make a difference.

Antony Blinken said that there is no comparison between Vietnam and Afghanistan and in one sense, he was correct, we went into Afghanistan because their culture wouldn't allow a fellow Muslim guest in their nation to be turned over to infidels. The Taliban government at the time, told the US, if we wanted Osama bin Laden, to come and try and take him and our government accepted the challenge. Once we killed bin Laden when we found him in Pakistan, we should have left, but continued on at the request of the Afghan government and actually tried to make some improvements.
What was most dissimilar from Vietnam, was that the U.S. took as many fleeing Vietnamese as they could at the time, regardless of who they were (men, women, children). In Afghanistan, we only took the interpreters and left the fleeing women and children to be raped and forced brides of the Taliban.
We should never enter into another war unless the civilian government and politicians stand back and let the military do whatever it has to to ACTUALLY WIN a war, without their interference.
