Oil painting has nothing to do with petroleum products. The main ingredient to bind pigments is Linseed oil, allowing for richer colors and greater flexibility in painting techniques compared to earlier methods..

There are plenty of other paintings in a museum which are not protected like that.

Can't stop crude oil. Even with all electric cars, petrochemicals are a huge part of crude oil's importance to humans.
No crude = no tires, no asphalt, no plastics, no solar panels, no lubricating oils and on and on.
