Just One More Failure

"Washington (AFP) - US President Barack Obama telephoned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday to voice concerns about the crisis in Gaza amid an Israeli ground offensive.

Obama said that while the US supports Israel's right to defend itself, "the United States and our friends and allies are deeply concerned about the risks of further escalation and the loss of more innocent life."

The prime minister thanked Obama for Washington's support for Israel's right to defend itself as well as American backing for the Iron Dome project.

Obama on Friday said he spoke to Netanyahu about the situation in Gaza, underscoring the US support for Israel to defend itself but raising concerns about consequences of wider conflict.

Obama said he reaffirmed the United States' strong support for its ally but that he "also made clear the United States ... and our allies are deeply concerned about the risks of further escalation and the loss of more innocent life."

"We are hopeful that Israel will continue to approach this process in a way that minimizes civilian casualties," Obama told reporters at the White House.

Netanyahu was scheduled to hold a number of telephone conversations with world leaders Friday to shore up international legitimacy for the Gaza operation and ensure “room to maneuver.”

Diplomatic officials said that Israel will formally ask the UN to publish pictures of the missiles that on Thursday were found in an UNRWA school. This will help show the world that Hamas uses its schools to fire rockets on Israeli ones.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel earlier Friday said that she supported IsraelÂ’s right to defend itself.

“Of course, this needs to be done in a reasonable manner,” Merkel told reporters in Berlin.

Israel's #1 ally?

"With a predictability that is rapidly becoming mind-numbing monotony, various American officials — from the president on down — have been stressing the need for Israel to exercise restraint in its counter- terror operation in Gaza so as to minimize Palestinian civilian casualties.

In addition to President Obama, this concern has been voiced in recent days in one form or another by none other than Secretary of State Kerry and the American envoy in Israel, Ambassador Shapiro, as well as the spokesmen for the State Department and the White House.

Just in case we didn't get the message the fourth or fifth time it was delivered in public, both the president and the secretary of state are said to have repeated it in private telephone conversations with Prime Minister Netanyahu.

As Ronald Reagan might have put it, "there they go again." And again, and again, and again.

Washington's recurring mantra about restraint is not merely tiresome, it is profoundly hypocritical,...."

Right right, cause the US under a different President would never have urged (wink wink, nudge nudge) restraint. :eusa_whistle:

It's all of a piece....the big picture puts Obama...and you....out in Left field.

"According to the poll, 57% of the public said the Israeli actions against Hamas, the Palestinian organization that runs Gaza, are justified, with just over a third saying they are unjustified.

Forty-three percent of those questioned said Israel's using about the right amount of force, with 12% saying they're not using enough. Nearly four in 10 said Israel is using too much force in Gaza.

Forty-five percent of Democrats questioned said that Israeli's military actions in Gaza are justified. That number jumps to 56% among independents and 73% among Republicans."

"In a stunning rebuke of President Obama’s tepid calls for Israel to show "restraint" in response to daily rocket fire on Israeli civilian targets by Hamas terror redoubts in Gaza, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, long considered Israel’s best friend and strongest defender, all but condemned President Obama by name for what he regards as Washington’s irresolute support for Israel during its time of grave crisis."
Canadian Prime Minister Condemns Obama, West for Not Supporting Israel

Here is the statement. Notice it is not a condemnation or rebuke of President Obama. Followed by the President statement about the rocket attacks.

“The indiscriminate rocket attacks from Gaza on Israel are terrorist acts, for which there is no justification. It is evident that Hamas is deliberately using human shields to further terror in the region.

“Failure by the international community to condemn these reprehensible actions would encourage these terrorists to continue their appalling actions. Canada calls on its allies and partners to recognize that these terrorist acts are unacceptable and that solidarity with Israel is the best way of stopping the conflict.

“Canada is unequivocally behind Israel. We support its right to defend itself, by itself, against these terror attacks, and urge Hamas to immediately cease their indiscriminate attacks on innocent Israeli civilians.

“Canada reiterates its call for the Palestinian government to disarm Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist groups operating in Gaza, including the Iranian proxy, Palestinian Islamic Jihad.”

"As I’ve said repeatedly, Israel has a right to defend itself from rocket attacks that terrorize the Israeli people. There is no country on Earth that can be expected to live under a daily barrage of rockets," Obama said.

For purposes of clarity, ....is it your analysis that Obama is, with respect to Israel, cut from the same cloth as the Canadian Prime Minister?

That's the gist of it, but as the sane know this is the truth it:

Harper spoke of Israel’s right to defend herself, citing “It is Israel’s right and obligation” but the White House is too concerned with dispatching Secretary of State John Kerry to the region to impose a ceasefire. In actuality Harper gets it – that now is the time for the international community to stand firmly behind Israel with one united message, to please rid the world of Hamas and Islamic Jihad and permit the 1.8 million residents of Gaza to get on with their lives. Please remove Hamas from government and permit international donor funds to reach the people and permit Gaza to rehabilitate itself and elect a government that is not corrupt. Now is the time to rid the Mideast of Hamas, which refuses to recognize the State of Israel and vows to continue fighting until Israel is pushed into the Mediterranean. - See more at: The Yeshiva World Canadian PM Rebukes Obama on His Israel Stance « » Frum Jewish News

It has been long since it was made clear where Obama's designs lie.....
And those designs have led to the edge of war in the Middle East.

Fuckinay that's funny. Edge of war in the Middle East? Seriously? When's the last time the Middle East wasn't on the edge of war,

if not already in one?

No. Here's the real irony. Israel has been at war with Iran and Syria via their proxies for decades. On the edge? What edge? It's time to end that war, don't ya think?

Restraint. Negotiations. Occupiers!

Israel needs to go back into the West Bank and the Gaza strip, kill everything above the age of 12, bury the bodies under new cities and move on.
