I've been posting and communicating on this thread for a few months now and just noticed this area for introducing one's self.

Some of you have probably read my posts and hate my guts, and some of you may welcome a new voice for progressive thinking and liberal perspective. But for those who haven't let me just give myself a brief introduction.

My name is Ian and I live in Colorado. I served in the US Marine Corps from 1995 to 1999. Afterwards I became a climbing guide until I broke my leg and my wallet. I've worked in the ski industry, the forest service, and in more than a few corporate offices.

I'm an agnostic and fully support freedom of religion.

I'm a radical, fringe-dwelling liberal, marxist, socialist, communist (which doesn't mean Stalinism or what China practices), homo-loving, elitist, environmentalist, peace-loving hippie with a beard even. I'm far too left to vote democrat, but I do, or maybe I should say I vote anti-Republican.

I think the way to solve the world's problems is through better understanding between all people and all kinds of people, and compassion. Or, a terrible plague that kills most of us off, one of the other.

Alright, feel free to rant away, and I'll see you in the pits!

Well, at least you're honest.

I broke my leg on a 5.11b/c sport route called Squid Kid on Monitor Rock outside of Twin Lakes, Colorado. I took a 25-30 foot fall and caught my foot on a bulge. I broke both the my left tibia and fibula just above the ankle joint. I was quoted $15,000 from a private hospital for the surgery only. The VA did it, and I didn't pay a dime, not even for the pain killers and physical rehabilitation. I used to be Wilderness First Responder certified, but I let that lapse since I don't guide any longer. I used to work for Apex Adventure Guides out of Avon, Colorado and they may still have a website. I think its

www.apexadventure.com
Or something like that.

North Carolina and West Virgina have some good climbing, but Colorado and California have the best, if you like big stuff, and I do. This October I'm headed to Yosemite and Joshua Tree for two months of easy living and hard climbing.

I wasn't flattering myself. I would rather get along with everyone and have no one dislike me, especially for my opinions. But AllieBaba thinks I'm a fascist, idiot. And Truthspeaks probably wouldn't consider me his friend. Among others. Willow probably hates me. Andrew 2352 or whatever his name is. I'm not high on his list of admirable people. But I have tried to be civil and rational. I wasn't always successful at it, but I meant well.

Welcome.

How does one become a "a radical, fringe-dwelling liberal, marxist, socialist, communist (which doesn't mean Stalinism or what China practices), homo-loving, elitist, environmentalist, peace-loving hippie with a beard even?"

hes not into the big wall stuff...i think cause he hasnt done it and doesnt have the equipment for it...

so far he is in one piece...spained a knee..has a dislocating shoulder....but hey....compared to the others...kenton nearly died of blood infection when he took a swing and hit the rock ...driving rock dust into his calve bones..they clean it out a few hours later...they climb table rock and shiprock off the parkway....mostly new river in wv

i always forget the places and the names...he is my only child..so i am like super protective...when his father started him climbing i raised hell...didnt slow them down at all...i never forget one time i was talking about a friend...and my son freaks....you know him...you know him ...he is one of the greatest climbers blah blah blah....i didnt have the heart to tell my son the "greatest climber" was also crazy as a shit house rat...but that is a whole another story...

so you will climb again..that is good...have you been back on the rock? hell i know you have..when he is sprained or dislocated...i learned to check his fingernails for chalk dust....it is such a madness

i have done the cave route on table ....hehheheh 5.5 i think....stop laughing...scared me to death....

now stone mountain does have the best friction climbing....if you are into that...

everything is about being big with you guys out west

Well, there's reason enough to hang your head in shame right there. Allie doesn't like you.

Course, nevermind the fact that she doesn't like anyone, including herself, but that's neither here nor there. :)

I spent two months in "The Valley" a few years back, and returned two years ago. I've done some of the easier walls like South Face of the Washington Column, West Face of the Leaning Tower, and the Northwest Face Regular Route on Half Dome. Its just that I hate aid climbing.

Which guy do you mean? There are lots of'em now who solo really big stuff.

Yes, climbers are a crazy bunch. I have yet to meet one who I would call a mature, well-adjusted, responsible adult. Me included!

And the better they are it seems the crazier they are!

I was just wondering if you had some interesting story to tell like a tragic childhood, a life-changing event or perhaps a Mormon was involved.

Huh. Actually, yeah, I come from an abusive-step-father-alcoholic-mother home as a kid, in southwest Idaho, which is a stronghold for Mormons and I was an outcast agnostic, then I joined the USMC, and have almost died a bunch of times. So, in regards to your question, how did you know?

Mormon related tragedies are quite common. I could see this from a mile away. I'll pray for you. :eusa_pray:

Heh heh! Very funny. Is it just stereotyping and coincidence? Is this what every conservative thinks liberals are: tormented souls, damaged goods, people warped by trauma or tragedy?

Actually, it's the other way around - conservatives are the bitter tormented ones; that's why we're so greedy, dontcha know...

Asking me what a conservative thinks is like asking Dan Quayle how to spell 'Potato'.

(There's a huge thread about Mormons and I just like making fun of them.)
