Julian Aguon: U.S. Militarization of Guam Is "Nothing Less Than Cataclysmic"

Ungrateful Guamanians should remember: If it weren't for the US military, their parents and grandparents would have been used for bayonet practice by Imperial Japanese soldiers.

I wonder if that dude in the OP's link realizes that Guam has been a US military base, administered mainly by the Navy since the US took possession of it after defeating Spain in the Spanish-American war back in 1898?

Guam should be an American state with 2 socialist senators, not a US military base

The commentary on the video claims it is the most western US territory, when it fact it is the eastern-most US territory. It is west of the International Date Line, making it east, not west!

The population of Guam does not warrant statehood. There is also more than one US military base on Guam. something your video neglected to mention.

The population of Guam today is more than the combined population of Delaware and Rhode Island back in the day after they were admitted.

Hey douchebag! Your key words were "back in the day". That dismisses your entire argument.

Also, those states were not admitted under the Constitution. They merely had to ratify it!

Your knowledge of history appears to be non-existent.

Guam's entire economy is sustained by the U.S. military along with some tourism. Demilitarizing the island would plunge it into poverty.

China would also love to expand their sphere of influence that far into the Pacific, too. We'd just be creating a political vacuum for them to rush in and fill. It wouldn't surprise me if the CCP was behind Guam's nationalization movement.

American Troops gave their lives to liberate Guam in WW2 and now they hate us for it. Go figure.

That seems to be the general attitude all over the world, except for the Japanese. They love us, even though we nuked them. Or at least they love our culture.

Actually, we didn't liberate Guam from the Japanese, we took it back from them during WWII. Guam has been a part of the US (and a primary shipping port as well as base for the Navy) since 1898.
