All the "Republicans do this" and "Democrats do that" rhetoric aside, it is not within the governments purview to judge what is misinformation and what is not. The president and Congress have one job: uphold the Constitution. This means ensuring American citizens have the right to free speech and not infringing on that right. It does NOT mean deciding who can say what, even if they think it's in error or "misinformation".

Even putting the above aside for a moment, the government has already proven that they are no more capable than its constituents at discerning truth from non-truth. It would be like putting the Mob in charge of law enforcement.
