Judge States Traditional Marriage Was Polygamy

People should be able to have as many wives (or husbands) as they want. As long as all parties agree, what is the problem?

I don't know where this judge received her information but most people throughout history could not afford more than one spouse and in mot societies it is a one for one pairing. Polygamy or polyandry were done from necessity but were not the norm throughout history.

That judge needs to provide proof on this one.

It's in the Bible. Isn't that proof enough? :eusa_angel:

No, it's not. Try reading a Bible sometime. In the beginning God created man and woman. That was the first marriage so traditionally it's the one we go with, right?

If we were a theocracy we probably would.

Family Law Attorneys would love that.

Imagine the permutations. Wife #3 want to leave and have custody of child 4 from wife 2 + visitation with children 1-3.

That first story is a Hebrew Fairy Tale.

There is no mention of marriage or a father selling his daughter.

If your going to be a literalist -- we're all chidden of incest. Noah and his daughter.

Why is this Judge embracing Eastern traditions but not western traditions?

The Native Americans were polygamous into the 20th century

The Mormons were polygamous

Many of the Asians and Middle Easterners have been polygamous

We have Muslim African families in SLC that are polygamous

Majority of Americans, super majority of millenials, have no problem with marriage equality.

Native Americans came from Eastern Countries.
Polygamy was outlawed here in the States in 1878.
Most Countries have it outlawed;
The vast Majorities of Countries have it outlawed.
The Countries in Black still allow it. Most of them all Muslim.

Why is this Country embracing Muslim traditions instead of Christian traditions?
Why is this Nation wanting to go backwards to the 7th century Muslim traditions?

Which wife gets to make medical decisions? Suppose the husband is on life support and Wife 1 wants him unplugged, but Wife 2 doesn't. Does Wife 3 get any say into the medical care of kids from Wife 4? Then what? Or alimony and property division in divorces?

I'm all for letting adults do what they want up to and including polygamy, but I also recognize that the laws we have on the books now would really need revamping because there will be a whole set of problems that our current laws never foresaw.

Then why is this tradition now outlawed? Seems men should be able to marry as many women as they like.

Sent from my iPad using an Android.

Because tradition by itself is not a valid argument for or against anything. That's the point.

If you argue for 'traditional' marriage as a case against same sex marriage, you've trapped yourself into having to argue for polygamy, which is also a 'traditional' form of marriage.

That is a trap most anti-same sex marriage people don't like being caught in, that's why you see these desperate arguments attempted to show that polygamy is not a traditional form of marriage.

This is a secular nation based on human rights, not Christian theocratic authority.

We have never been a Secular Nation, we have always had God in our Government with opening prayer each day in the House, Senate and Supreme Court ever since we became the United States of America.

This Judge should not be ruling for Muslim theocratic polygamy.

The social con far right outcasts no longer dictate marriage law.

Another tyrant in a robe making excuses for destroying the voice of the people and replacing it with 1 vote which is her's and allowing the degeneracy to continue to flow throughout Amerika....another day another death blow to democracy.

Another Big Government right wing progressive wanting to limit civil liberties is what you are, DiabloBlanco.

I love it!!

I love it!!

Christians in this thead are denying their own bible and biblical history and culture.

The phobia in Homophobia is so-ooooo strong, they will burn their own bible.

Christians were doing it wa-aaay before Muslims.

Know your history.

Know your history.

Jewish Christians were, but it finally became even with them, that marriage is between one man and one woman by the 3rd and 4th centuries.

Tertullian who lived at the turn of the 2nd and 3rd centuries, wrote that marriage is lawful, but polygamy is not:

"We do not indeed forbid the union of man and woman, blest by God as the seminary of the human race, and devised for the replenishment of the earth and the furnishing of the world and therefore permitted, yet singly. For Adam was the one husband of Eve, and Eve his one wife, one woman, one rib.

Continue being wrong Jake. It fits you perfectly. No one is stopping fags from marrying. Marriage is 1 man and 1 woman. So there is no "limited civil liberties" to play with here.

You lie, as all Big Government right wing progressives lie.

You want to use Big Government to prevent marriage equality.

This is why Americans under 50 and the millenials in particular despise the social con outcasts on the far right.

Tertullian was appointed and ratified for the Supreme Court when?

Almost no good Catholics care today what the good Holy Father had to say.

No she isn't. she is ruling for a small minority that wants immorality.
This nation has been going down this road since the 1960's and we have continued to go downhill as a nation.
Children having sex at 11 and 12 years old. Children having children.
Mass Murder's has risen since the 1990's.
God taken out of our schools.
Government debt at 17 Trillion.
We have the most devise President we have ever had.

The standards people have when differentiating between right and wrong and good and bad. Values people have include things such as honesty, compassion, courage, integrity, fairness and respect.
We no longer have these.

Polygamy was certainly the tradition in the Americas.

Polygamy was certainly the tradition until the conversion to Christianity from 200 to 1200 CE.

The Rabbi, what history are you studying? It is certainly not the Earth's.

Traditions are also cultural norms and there is no evidence that polygamy was ever a norm. It was something the wealthy could afford to do. Reading about it in a history book doesn't make it traditional.

Once again you make an opinion statement and that it is factual evidence. You are wrong.

I'm still waiting for you to make a point.
