I don’t believe they need to have a gun, but I do believe that representatives from both parties should have someone there monitoring the boxes. We have monitors for in person voting, so no reason not to do the same for drop boxes, which is by far the easiest place to cheat. I am not sure why Democrats would be so opposed to protecting against cheating.

My question is, what actions are box watchers allowed to do?
Can they ask to see what somebody is dropping off in the box,
or in any way stop them from dropping off multiple ballots?

Nothing wrong with monitors. It's being armed, and in body armor that makes it look like they're looking for a gunfight. Or use their weapons to force people to do anything from show proof of identification, to taking physical control of their ballots.
