All 57. The COTUS says the several states shall choose electors "in such manner as the legislature may direct". That leaves it wide open. A given state can draw names from a hat if they want to. Sure they like to set up "elections" as it makes for good TV Bread-and-Circus and gives the impression of a democracy. But it's all a puppet show.
