Yes they are horrible parents but it is my understanding that they got all children involved professional help. Assuming that is the case, what more should they have done. And as far as when they went to the police....who cares. VERY few parents would take their kid to the police in this kind of a situation. I am not saying that is ok. I am just saying that compared to a lot of other examples of child molestation, it's pretty light. I dated a girl in college whose father did FAR more to her on a weekly basis than brushing his fingers over her when she slept. That girl is fucked for life as a result. So what he did was wrong, yes...but this wasn't exactly hardcore molestation, rape, etc.

BTW...statistically most people who do this as children or adolescents do not continue the behavior as adults.This kid may prove to be the exception...who knows. What I will say is that this is a textbook example of how religion can be destructive when not approached in a healthy way

Do you have any link showing that when a 14 year old molests 4 sisters, some while sleeping, some while awake, he usually outgrows this behavior without any professional counseling? I'd like to see that bit of information.

You know the police report, and the video of that interview are online.

What the parents say, and what the police reports says are two different things. The parents continuously downplay what actually took place. But I understand that you will believe what you want.

In the interview, if you'll start listening around 5 minutes and 30 seconds, Jim Bob talks about sending Josh to this friend of the family (a religious nutter, no doubt) where Josh was supposedly getting counselling, but what he doesn't tell you is that his friend was shut down over sexual allegations of his own, and that Josh only did construction work.

Maybe you can explain why you think Josh got proper treatment from a fellow pervert?



The parents flat out lied about none of their girls remembering what happened. One of the girls admitted that Josh pulled up her dress in the laundry room, her dress had a hole in it, and it felt weird.

This is not tabloid information. The person they chose to counsel Josh was a fellow pervert, as public records show. The cop that the parents chose to give Josh a stern talking to is also in prison for child pornography. Does that sound like good parenting to you?

What would be YOUR criteria for "labeling" someone a "child molester"?

He is labeled a child molester because he molested children, several times that we know of and over a period of several years. "Kid"? Its true that he was 15 when he started. Did you know right from wrong when you were 15? At what age should people be held responsible for their actions? How about after the years he lived with the kiddie pornographer?

He is also being labeled an adulterer because, by his own admission, he cheats on his wife.

If a child molester would molest his own baby sisters then again when they were older, as well as the family babysitter, you really think he should be trusted with other little baby girls?

I don't believe they did all they could, in fact, I believe they swept it under the rug.

IF they did everything they claim they did, I personally don't see what more they could have done. They tried to get their kid help in multiple ways, they went to the police (which the VAST majority of parents wouldn't have done), they took measures to protect their kids after the fact, etc. IF all of that is true, what else should they have done? What would you have done in addition to what they did if it was your son?

Believe me, I have neither love nor sympathy for the Duggars. Frankly, I think they are a bunch of kooks. But I am not sure what else there was to do that they did not do...or at least claim they did.

The reality is that if this was not a family who portrayed themselves as so holy and righteous, this story wouldn't even be front page news

They didn't report it to the police for over a year, and when they finally did, it was an officer friend, who is now in prison for child pornography. The place they sent him to for help (another friend of the family who was also charged with sex allegations) was not professional therapy, and all Josh did was help do labor work for the man.

The VERY least they should have done, would be to get Josh and their daughters some professional counseling. They are horrible parents.

They DID get all of them professional counseling. I never heard that the police was a friend I saw their interview, they went into the station and didn't know the guy that Josh spoke to, he was just the one on duty and he didn't condone what he did. The officer gave him a stern talking to about it and told him that it was very serious what he did but what more can they do? It isn't like someone was pressing charges on him.

And just to stir the pot a little I will throw this out there (and no I do not agree nor think this way at all) what was he doing wrong on the adult website? Did he actually go out with someone? Maybe he was just hunting for women to send him dirty pictures and talk dirty to him. If he didn't actually physically do anything with any women is that really cheating? Would it be considered cheating if it were anyone else? I am really interested in the men's take on that especially.

You do realize that he just experienced a terrible beating for his admission to having sexually abused his sisters and a baby sitter (not a sister)? That he evaded being held accountable for it, and had claimed forgiveness and healing from all of his wrongdoing and proclaimed to be a Christian? And, now he is having to admit that he has been lying to his wife and especially to all the people that have claimed that he indeed is a true man of God? A true man of God doesn't go out and join a secret organization that encourages adultery. Undoubtedly millions of others do it, and were they to appear sanctimonious like him, they would get the same chastizement that he is getting.

And while we are on the subject of adultery...have you ever looked up what constituted it from a biblical standpoint especially for a man? Let's just say the rules are a lot looser for a man than a woman.

Maybe society's rules for punishing adultery are a lot looser for men than women, even in Biblical times, but in the Bible, I believe it is the same. There is no exemption.

And you think that is reason to not hold them accountable? It's sad that he was brought up in such an archaic environment where the parents think their only purpose here on earth is to procreate, but that doesn't exempt anyone from the law. Josh knew about sex....either from watching his parents or instinctively, but he knew that touching his sister's privates was sexually arousing, and he also knew that it was wrong. Still, that doesn't make it legal, especially since they were minors.
