The riot--the breaking and entering--did frighten some who didn't know it was coming until it became apparent that there was some vandalism but no violence from those who entered the Capital. Those inside were then escorted by Capital police officers. Most of the people who entered the Capital that day did so in an orderly manner through the doors and did no harm while inside.

The video of congressional members, being videotaped by Pelosi's daughter, calmly walking through the halls is pretty telling.

There was no insurrection, no plan for an insurrection, no discussion about an insurrection. It was planned as a rally by tens of thousands of ordinary Americans who were exercising their constitutional right to assemble and to petition their government for a redress of grievances re an election they believed, and still believe, was stolen from them.

The relative few who participated in the riot were not among the rally goers and that riot very possibly was instigated by malicious government operatives for the purpose of smearing President Trump.
