Jobless roll reaches record 5 million

Should be noted that the current unemployment rate is still significantly below the nearly 11% rate of 1982 - and unlike 1982, current inflation remains rather stable. (though deflation concerns are legitimate.)

While the current economy is poor, it has yet to reach the depths of the early 80's recession - though the quickening downward trends of the last quarter of 2008 and the first quarter of 2009 are cause for considerable concern.

Unfortunately, unlike 1982, this conern is not resulting in generalized reductions of the overall tax burden - but rather an alarming and significant increase in government spending.

Not good...

It will go much higher by the end of the year....

Bloomberg.com: Worldwide

And 6 million illegals have jobs ..... :eusa_whistle:

What a coincidence........

Unfortunately, now is not the time to do anything about the illegals. The truth is some are leaving on their own due to the bad economy. Anyone we lose at this point will only further exasperate the housing market creating even more vacancies and dropping property values further, which in turn will lead to even more problems.

Don't be scared to enforce the law. Yes we probably got a few more empty houses by chasing the illegals out, but it has been worthwhile. Unfortunately, if your local police force is not already trained for immigration enforcement, there will be no funds for it now.
