Well..I'm glad that someone other than the taxpayers paid the tab:

Nearly seven months after the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland was struck by a shipping vessel and collapsed, the U.S. Justice Department has reached a settlement of more than $100 million with the companies that owned and operated the vessel, the Dali.

Grace Ocean Private Ltd. and Synergy Marine Private Ltd. have agreed to pay $101,980,000 to settle the civil claim brought by the U.S. for the costs to respond to the "catastrophic collapse," the Justice Department said in a statement Thursday.

It said the money will go to the U.S. Treasury and other federal agencies that were directly affected by the incident or involved in the response.

Unfortunately the people that were affected by accident or their family survivors will never see a penny of the settlement.

In other words, the authorities see the wanton mis-operation of a shipping vessel crashing into a vital bridge collapsing it and blocking a vital seaway for weeks only 1/7th the crime of Fox News suggesting that Dominion voting machines from Venezuela may not be the most reliable, honest, cheat-free things in the world.

And only 3X the crime of Donald Trump not making a pass at the sea-hag E Jean Carrol 30 years ago.

Got it.

It never ceases to amaze me how the cult members can turn any story into something about their cult leader

I would guess that just repairing the bridge alone will end up costing most of the 100 million so basically, they will be lucky to break even.
The new bridge will cost a lot more than $100m. Probably $2b

The DEI Society. This may take near a decade to build. Or if they fast track it to look good, half that. The old "can do" America the bridge would be being rebuilt now.

Ridiculous. Why can't they just fix the existing bridge? I do not like the new design anyway--- if I were a civil engineer, I would only build bridges where there was no single failure which could cause a catastrophic collapse, that type of bridge, if a few cables break, it can lead to the entire bridge falling down.

I wonder if there will be any money left for the victims and their families now that harris and xiden made sure they got paid first…

1. The old bridge can't be fixed or replaced in-kind. The harbor needs more vertical clearance and to be deepened.

2. Bridges are designed to have redundancy. Here is the design code. Read up on cable-stayed bridges.

Yet the old bridge served well at the height is was. Were there plans to replace it anyway? Maybe we should thank the shipping company for knocking that old POS down for us.

Just 88 pages of tables of contents. As to bridge design, maybe that is the case NOW, but I know for a fact that some of the worst past bridge collapses were due to a critical single point of failure. I'm not real impressed with the new design either--- say what you want but all those cables tie in at one central point high overhead. That is a single point of failure should something go wrong there.

Very good.

Really? The treasury and fed agencies cannot incur any cost since nothing they spend is their money in the first place! The money should go to those actually affected, the businesses and people who most depend on that bridge and waterway for transportation and shipment of goods.
