The driver should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. However, immigrants are shown to be less likely than citizens to be responsible for such tragedies.

The thing was, Trump made that part of it a lot worse by disbanding the immigration courts, thinking that if people couldn't get a hearing, they'd stop coming.

It totally backfired.

Let's go back to my favorite subject and see if you can talk about it without violating board rules. Mrs. B131 applied for asylum in 2016. Had a pretty iron-clad case, they had arrested her in China for attending an activity that the government didn't approve.

Seven years later when she married me, she STILL hadn't gotten a hearing. They simply renewed her status year after year.

When we got married, we applied for a sponsorship. At the same time, she withdrew her asylum application.

USCIS got back to her on that. A year later, they sent a letter under her old name to her old address.

Now, this was someone who complied with all the rules. She wasn't actively hiding, she did everything she was asked. And they still flopped around for seven years, and we aren't done yet.

Now imagine if she had been actively hiding, using fake names, fake ID's, moving around to keep one step ahead of USCIS and ICE.
