First, you will have to clarify which "Jews" we're discussing:

1) Biblical Judah or them genetically related to biblical Judah?
2) People living in or occupying the land of Judea?
3) People who practice the religion of Judaism?

Remember, from a biblical standpoint, there are twelve separate and distinct "Tribes of Israel" (including Judah).
From a secular standpoint, there are the Khazarian peoples (an Asiatic people) who converted to Judaism in the 7th and 8th centuries, A.D.
Then to further complicate the issue of who "the Jews" are, we have the accounts of Ezra and Nehemiah who claimed that the men of Judah who returned to Jerusalem to rebuild that city had taken non-Israelite wives and whose children were of mixed heritage. This sorely vexed the two Prophets.

So to have an educated discussion about who today's "Jews" are, we need to make it clear which "Jews" we're talking about.
