You make an excellent point as to "Why" there is a need for Christianity to exist..........Do you comprehend just what is meant by addering to the Christian faith? The things you mentionded as the fault of Christianity actually have nothing to do with the actual source of Christian faith, the word of God. I defy you to present the authorization to condone torture, imprisonment, within the actual text of the New Testament of Christ Jesus. Book, Chapter and Verse........its not Christianity that is fault, its the corruption of the actual word of God and the faith found therein that is to blame. There are many instances where Christianity is used as nothing but a political tool or a method to garner personal wealth, power and or fame.
Hilter claimed to be a Christain..........there are many TV evangelists that claim to be Christian but preach nothing but a false message of "resproperity"...i.e., God loves you.......but send your money to my address and the Lord will repay you 10 fold.....yada, yada, yada.......all you have to do is pray, "I accept Jesus into my heart. These people are wovles in sheep's clothing........preying on those who can least afford their short con, the weak, the feeble expecting something that was never promised in scripture......a pesonal miracle...the widows and those on a fixed socialist income. Its evil personified.
Then of course we find the RCC attempting to rule the world from the "Vatican".......where it became a crime to even own and read from a Bible with only the clergy authorized to read the supposed word of God, in a dead language that only the highly educated could comprehend. The RCC brought to the world such Noble events as the Insquisitions, and the Crusades......while making it a crime in all the western civilized world to practice any religion other than Roman Catholicism.........controlling all the heads of state from Rome. Rome corrupted the actual word of God several hundred years after the actual church of Christ was established in order to use it as a political tool to accomplish what the fading military might of the Roman Empire could not, conquer and control the known world.
Again...........I defy you or anyone to present the Book, Chapter and Verse that authorized governments such as Rome or the Nazi regime to do what they did in the name of Christianity.
Its MEN and the sin they engage that have caused the events you project to be so concerned about..........what have you did to stop this tortue, war, murders.......theift....etc. in the name of Atheism? According to atheism.......its doctrine is responsible for such corruption. Might makes right........survival of the fittest.......you promote no golden rule, you promote a biased (at best) silver rule do good when someone is looking, and steal cheat, kill, back bite only when you are sure you will not have to pay the penalty of a Judicial System that based its fundamental principles upon Blackstones Commentaries on the law of England, with Blackstone using the Christian/Judeo philsophy as the corner stone to English Law. Blackstone is responsible for the majority of the founding documents and wording of the United States Declaration of Independence and Constitutional Laws.
Black to the original meaning of Christianity. It means "To be Called Out from the World and its god.........." Satan.
"If ye were of this world; the world would love its own; but because you are not of this world, but I have choosen you out of this world, therefore the world hates you." -- John 15:19.
You have demonstrated this to perfection......attempting to blame Christianity for faults that are common to those who DO NOT BELIEVE, call them what you will, I call them unblievers.....be they agnostic, athesits, or those of a corrupted faith that uses religion as a tool for personal gain.
I did not express my opinion. I posted quotes from Thomas Jefferson.
I do not have anything against Christianity. I was a relatively devout Christian throughout my youth.
I am arguing against the US Gov't advocating for, or making laws against any faith (or lack thereof).
