What was said is that Trump can't solicit a foreign national to do that. Trump could have had his own Justice Deparmemt do it. Ukraine, had they actually suspected any wrong doing, could have simply investigated it without Trump asking them.

Huh ? Ok say Trump orders his own Justice Dept into action on the matters of corruption in Ukraine, well do you think that they could do it without the assistance of those officials in Ukraine ??

Now if the investigations or request end up as nothing or just invalid request, then the counter reasoning of why the request was made should be made at that point.
