Richard Armitage admitted that he was concerned when he read intelligence reports pointing to someone at the WH as the coordinator of the arms sales. he had lunch with North and advised him "to get the elephants together" and cover his backside

an FBI officer discovered North locked in his office one day. the officer found "a bulging shredder bag" and "a broken shredder"
And again, so what?

You know what, every aspect of Iran Contra kind of worked out to our advantage.

Iraq's power was weakened.
We kept enough pressure on the Sandinistas to bring them to the negotiating table and allow Democratic elections.
We got our hostages out and all of them were freed by 1991.

One of the lesser known aspects of the Iran Contra scandal was Oliver North diverting millions in proceeds from weapons sales to Iran to Carl Channell.

This money was spent on primary challenges against House members that had exposed their crimes.

Fawn Hall, Secretary of Lt Col Oliver North, stuffed Iran-Contra documents in her boots and under her blouse to help him shred & destroy evidence. Conceal vs Reveal

As Reagan complained at Michael Deaver when Deaver tried to weed out tough q&a questions submitted after a speech: "You can't hit a softball out of the park!"

I don't disagree.

Unfortunately, Democrats gave him transactional immunity in the hope he would implicate Reagan in crimes, but Reagan didn't actually commit any crimes.

Reagan not only violated the Arms Export Control Act and the National Security Act but also his own stated policy against dealing with terrorists. he also broke the cardinal rule of covert operatives, he began to believe his own cover. he persuaded himself that he had not been trading arms for hostages, but that he had merely tried to establish a friendly relationship with Iranian "moderates".
If the Democrat-controlled Congress had not cut off funding for the anti-communist freedom fighters in Nicaragua, Reagan would not have needed to find other sources of funding for the freedom fighters to try to topple Nicaragua's brutal Marxist regime.

from the archives:

"Dismissing Weinberger's objections, Reagan declared that he could answer charges of illegality but couldn't answer the charge that big strong Reagan passed up a chance to free hostages.

Jokingly, Reagan remarked that if he went to jail, visiting hours are Thursday

Weinberger rejoined that Reagan would not be alone"

it was pathetic that the dems in congress made it illegal to give arms to the contras fighting the communists.
The Democrats have had a soft spot for communists and communism going back to the 1930s.
You DO realize that Ike was pals with Stalin right? Lol I made a thread in the history section that documents that,it has a picture in it of Ike standing next to Stalin having a jolly old good time with each other.IKE and FDR were both evil bastards who were pals with him.

Excellent stuff that proves beyond a doubt he ran the most corrupt administration ever at the time.other presidents sense him have been just as corrupt as he was and even worse but at the TIME,he ran the most corrupt administration ever than any president before him did and there were a lot of corrupt ones before him.
