Just start with Clinton. The FBI did a thorough and appropriate investigation into Clinton’s emails server and Comey said that there wasn’t a case against her to charge.

That was the correct call, as we know, since Clinton wasn’t charged even after Trump took office.

But Republicans couldn’t accept that and so started their alternative narrative that Comey (a lifelong Republican) was trying to protect Clinton despite the fact that his actions indeed hurt her campaign.
