If vast majority are "USA" citizens (as you claim, that means born here or maybe few on the 7 yrs citizenship?

They should know English 15-18 yrs here. These "honor students" should read, write from grade school.

No one needs your BS but recent illegal immigrants, perhaps?

"Should" and $3.50 will get you a cup of coffee. You may be shocked to learn that not everyone in the country shares your affluent, suburban upbringing. A lot of US CITIZENS are born and raised in households and neighborhoods where the enriched input of the critical period may not be primarily or very much at all in English. These students may need language support for as long as it takes to finish school fully prepared to engage in American society in every way. You want them to be so prepared.

And it never hurts to know that the kids give a crap.

Almost Christmas break and some students have given me simple, home-made gifts for my boys and my wife. Really just paper, but with messages that are heartfelt and heartwarming.
