Everybody who is interested in the topic should read Judge Napolitano’s piece. He gives a very brief history of the reason for the CIA in 1947, then takes us through the CIA’s romance with Congress, and finally the abuse of the Constitution by both the CIA and congressional committees.

The government is caught up in another scandal in which federal agents have been accused of hacking into one another's computers.

Americans have to be very cautious on this. I sure as hell do not trust the motives of Democrats who attack an intelligence agency. As I’ve said many times over the years “Never let the Democrats come anywhere near the intelligence community.” My warning was not heeded. Now you have Democrats controlling the very entity they despise when it is not working for the Socialist agenda.

On the other hand, I sure as hell do not want the CIA operating in the US. The history of Congress, especially the US Senate, tells me they will come to an agreement with the CIA that takes more freedoms away from private sector Americans.

The 1927 New York Yankees

In quieter times the Feinstein-Brenner scandal would be major news as it should be. Picking scandals to talk about reminds me of the NY Yankees Murderers’ Row. Who in their right mind would walk Babe Ruth to get at Lou Gehrig? To my way of thinking the media is faced with a political murderers’ row. Who would stop talking about HillaryCare II to talk about Feinstein-Brenner?

Anyway, here’s the scorecard to date:

Always gives me a smile when people cite law as applied to intelligence work. Like the very premise of breaking and entering to obtain unlawful information isn't itself illegal. :)

Jed Babbin reminded me that:

The CIA’s fear of leaks is entirely reasonable given the sorry history of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s conduct over the years. On January 8, 1987 NBC broadcast a report on the Iran-Contra scandal that was clearly tied to information that could only have been leaked by the Senate. An investigation showed that Sen. Pat Leahy (D-VT) had allowed a reporter to search through the classified Senate file. Leahy later admitted to the leak.

Leaky Leahy also leaked information on a covert operation planned by the Reagan administration to topple Muammar Gaddafi. Leahy was finally removed from the Intelligence Committee.

In March 2006, Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR), Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) revealed a top-secret (“black”) satellite program because they disagreed on how much should be spent on it. The three were the subject of a criminal referral — an accusation of criminal conduct — that the Justice Department received and promptly buried.

And not to be forgotten are Chairman Feinstein’s leaks. For example, she divulged some of our top-secret drone operations on the Senate floor, because she disagreed with them.

I have a different take on their motives:

The Democrats have an altogether awful record of leaking top-secret information to inflict damage on political opponents regardless of the impact on national security.

Lies, Spies, Leaks, and DiFi
CIA and Feinstein are playing lousy politics.

Inflicting damage on political opponents is a benign excuse the MSM used whenever they were forced to report on Democrats who got caught committing treason. “Nothing more than politics” trivialized every Democrat betrayal over many decades. There has never been anything harmless about their anti-America agenda. The truth is: The Soviet Union would still be doing business if Democrats had their hands on the intelligence community throughout the Cold War.
