Hamas would lose Islamic terrorist street-cred with agreement to a cease fire. They would be viewed as weak in the eyes of their terrorist syndicate network.

What a shame for them. The cease fire would have allowed time for Hamas to round-up women and children to place next to rocket launchers.

Hamas asked for the "ceasefire" in hopes that in that two hour window they can re-locate themselves and get armed again.

That was the entire plan.

Not only Israel didn't want to cease the fire, it was almost forced to do so, and agreed in thought of the still trapped civilians in the area.
